This time from TOPS. Damn it, Joe! You gotta' stop designing all this stuff. It's doing some serious damage to my wallet! :D

I think this would make a great companion blade for a larger knife, or for building an around-the-neck survival kit. The scraper/striker on the end is pure genius! Why hasn't that been done before?

The Shango! Nice! I remember talking about the name for this knife in one of the chats. It's a cool design - perfect for a PSK or even EDC carry. Congrats on this latest step in your design career, Joe.

All the best,

- Mike

NICE knife, a big step up from the basic neckers. That scraper is a great idea on a wilderness tool, and from the picture, wouldn't interfere with palming the handle, either.

It is a great idea for the striker to be there. Looks like it would be a pretty good backup. However, I will stick with the Izula.

Although.. when funds permit you never know what could happen.

I walked into that one :D I guess the scraper doubles as a whistle??? We've got to wait for dial up Joe to give us the run down on this one:thumbup:

I'm pretty sure that it -includes- a TOPS whistle, not that the knife -is- a whistle.

This is a good feeling knife, for the record. I got to play with the prototype, and it's nice!

That's a cool little piece of kit Joeski. Way to go bro. I'll have to try one out if I ever have any money again.

WOW! Thanks for all the stellar comments guys! I really got lucky with this little side project and it has been a JOY to work with Mike Fuller and the guys at TOPS on it. The knife is flat ground with a point down the center line, and with the 440 I was thinking it would be a good river knife to have on yah. It happens to have a "Shango notch" :P , a pretty nifty thing. Its kind of hard to explain so I shot this video. I'll probably re-shoot it for fun though. The striker works well to direct the spark, so if you have an extra small fluffy tinder source it won't throw it all over kingdom come. You light it this way and you can direct the spark into that small pile of fatwood shavings, broomsedge, or other material that catches a spark well, still in the sheath. It also can make a fine pile of magnesium shavings quickly. If you ever had to do it, you know what I mean. The idea came to me when I flipped my boat a while back, trying to think of a compact waterproof firestarting method that didn't depend on a waterproof bag. I could do the whole thing with mittens on. Mittens! :P

Awesome looking knife, definitely gonna pick one up

Speaking of TOPS knives, anyone ever try the Stryker Defender Tool?

I haven't. I'm not a fan of a sawback on any knife, but a normal looking one looks pretty handy.

Awesome Joe . Judging by the video, this one might seem to be a little easier to manipulate when you're cold and wet and fine motor skills are out the door. You can just grip it in a fist and hammer down to scrape and strike, as opposed to pinching a striker/scraper between your thumb and fingers. Will have to pick one up to try sometime! :)

 for the three-prong you're holding in that pic as well :D
