Wow! Don't know how I missed this one. Clips are more work than people think. I've found out its not for everyone, especially ones out of titanium. I'll be happy to help you if I can. Just give me a shout.

I've been away from Bladeforums for a bit, but just spotted this forum. I'm very glad you now have a place to call your own. I have always appreciated your work, and look forward to doing business with you someday in the future.

I have some folder's I'd love to have you convert to framelocks down the road. I have always admired your low-profile clips as well.

Congratulations, and best wishes for continued success!

Student;

I am myself a serious student of all aspects of the knife culture, however I missed class on the day that the proffessor talked about converting other types of knives to framelocks. Could I have a look at your notes to bring me up to date?;) thanks, A. G.

Converting a knife to a frame lock:

Hi A.G. glad to see you once again coming to my forum. Not to try to speak for Student mind you, but I think Student is referring to my work where I've taken a liner locking folder or even a fixed blade of one kind or another and converted it into a frame locking folder. I've also done some fixed blades where I converted an existing fixed blade into a lockback. One of my favorite knives is that way and was once a Bob Dozier SweetWater fixed blade that I now carry quite often in lockback form.

I doubt they teach any of that in school though. :eek: Even still, I've done it a few times for forum members and myself when the mood struck or when the owner had a small fixed or liner lock they liked the blade on but wanted in folder form. http://www.knifeforums.com/forums/s.../hl/Dozier+Semi+Skinner/fromsearch/1/#1117348

Here is a Dozier Semi Skinner I did for a forum member friend of mine much the same way only into a frame lock. By the way, Bob and the entire shop over there knew in advance of all of this and consented to it gladly. I showed Bob, Dan and Alicia my lockback at their booth at the Tulsa show a few months back. They seemed to like it. I met Phil there that day also. He was asking about 410 stainless at the time wondering how hard it could be taken to when heat treated. I had hoped to see you there but he told me you and Goldie couldn't make it. Maybe next time.

SeriousStudent. Thanks for the compliments by the way. I didn't mean to skip past your comments completely like that. I do appreciate it and will be more than happy to work with you on something. Contact me anytime.

It depends on how its done. It is a challenge working hardened steel and certainly not something I would do a lot of . It can be more expensive and a high % of the ones I'm contacted about get passed on just for that reason. But if someone is willing to spend the $ it can be done.

In my case when I did my lockback I wanted a folder from Bob but he no longer was taking orders for them at the time and it looked like he was done with them.

Shortly after I made it he started offering them again.

The blank from Bob was like $135 shipped so it did run more on that one but since I did it myself I only have about $150 in it. Not a bad deal for a Dozier folder in my mind.
