Just got a 943... First impression: WTH?!?!

Once you have one & enjoy it, you're bound to get the other. 940 & 943's have a 'niche' in a functional & capable edc with great ease & convenience when carried in the pocket...

In all honesty, how does someone buy a knife and not have a general idea of what size it's going to be? Don't you own a tape measure? 99% of manufacturers will give you blade length, handle length, and overall length. BM even lists the blade and handle thickness on their website.

When I buy a knife, I pull out a tape measure and compare a knife I own to give me an idea of what I'm buying, and I've never been disappointed. When I pull it out of the box, it's exactly how I imagined it.

Having a general idea of size and knowing exactly how a knife (or any object) will fit in my hand and pocket are very different things.
I've got to hold and inspect a knife in person to really get a feel for it. Judging from all the people who are shocked that certain models are so large or small, I'm not the only one who feels this way.

I was a huge skeptic of the 940 but i was at Bass Pro a few weeks back buying some lures and decided to take a look at some knives. They happened to have the 940 so I asked to see it and when he handed it to me i was first amazed how light it was and then how thin it was. I opened it and got a good grip on the handle and it felt great ( I wear a large size glove) in my hand. I bought it on the spot and it has not left my pocket yet. Although I don't really hard use my knives (thats what fixed blades are for) I have broken down boxes, cut cordage, sliced open bags and all the other general edc stuff with it and it has done it all without issue. But everyone is different in what feels good to them in hand so if it wasn't the right feel for you then get something else.

A 943 was the first high quality knife I bought. In the ~3 years since, it has been my one constant EDC blade. The slim form and light weight lends itself to any attire, whether it be jeans, dress pants, or even elastic band athletic shorts. Like many have said, the thing just disappears in the pocket. The thin handle also makes accessing it a breeze under any circumstance. I usually carry a Victorinox for non-threatening public cutting tasks and would rather use my Opinel No. 8 for extended work, but when I just need to cut something and move on with my life, nothing gets it over with quicker than my 943.

First off, its not the size of the blade, its how you use it... I'm sure you have herd that many times, but I believe its true.

Second, I Loved the 940-1 That I played with in a store. Then I opened the one I bought, OMG it was so bad! It felt like it had sand in the mechanism, and the centering was so bad that the blade carved into the carbon fiber when I closed it. It was new from a reputable dealer. I sent it back for a full refund, and Being the third Benchmade that I have purchased and the third that has failed me, I vowed it would be my last Benchmade purchase ever. So If you get a good one, than I say, use it and love it. Then when it breaks move to Spydies!

Wait, you bought one from a store? They didn't let you play with the one you were going to buy first?

It was a bass pro, where i looked at the knife, But the price was too high, and because it was a bass pro, and not a local family owned knife shop, I felt no remorse buying online.

I'm definitely in the minority here. My 940 is one of the larger that I carry - partially because it is as much blade as I usually need, and partially because anything much bigger is not legal in town. I do appreciate the additional length when cutting sandwiches and slicing extra large apples though, and like others have said, it does fit well in the pocket.

943 is slender, good looking, and curvaceous - a hot brunette of the knife industry. What more do you want? ;-)

In all fairness, it is an excellent knife - awesome slicer, takes very little space in the pocket, and is surprisingly tough for its looks. And it's an mm or two shorter than its cousin, the 940.
