There’s a difference between an estimated shipping date and an advertised contractual deadline. I believe in this case it is a guarantee and a reason many shop there and maybe pay extra for a prime membership. Because of that they should absolutely be held accountable. Actually if they are not held accountable it is not fair to the small business owners that don’t make those promises and may lose business because of it.
I'm a very, very easy going guy. I generally don't let little things like delays get to me. It happens, I understand that.
However, I 100% totally agree with you. I have been an Amazon Prime customer for about 10 years. While pretty much 100% of my knife purchases come from BFC, my family spends thousands of dollars with Amazon every single year. I pay them 100 dollars every year with the agreement that if the product is labeled "Prime", I get it in 2 days. That's the deal.
Now, I recently tried to buy something for my wife for Christmas on the 3rd week of November. It wasn't going to be a make or break item. We're adults here

However it was something she had been wanting.
I ordered the good, waited 2 days...nothing. checked the status, "We're so sorry it's late. Give it a few more days and get back with us"...nothing. I tracked the package and it had left and returned to the same Fulfilment Center and was stuck. I contacted customer service, and they said there was nothing they could do. They would refund my money (this was even purchased on an Amazon credit card), but I would need to reorder the item. By this time it was late into the first week of december, still plenty of time. No big deal.
I go to reorder the item and it is now THIRTY DOLLARS higher and no longer listed as Prime nor is it guaranteed by Christmas. It's a Christmas themed item, so basic Supply and Demand applies. I contact Amazon again. They will not lower the price nor will they pay to have it shipped within the originally promised 2 days. Instead they give me a 20 dollar credit...thanks.
So, no, I will lose no sleep if Amazon offers up complimentary credit when they screw up. I would never expect this from a smaller dealer, and it's one of the reasons I buy local as much as possible. There are just so many mundane items that Amazon has readily available. Prime, generally, is a good deal. However, you don't get to be the lean, mean Everything Store that drives down prices to the point that it's nearly impossible for others to compete...AND have any slack cut.
Anyway, I am guilty of driving this thread off the rails further. I apologize
I am a big fan of Ontario. They make such affordable quality tools. Purchased or credited, that's a great little knife for the money. I'd like to pick up one as a rough and tumble work knife. My work folders generally end up full of mud and used to cut all manner of undesirable stuff. I know the Ontario can stand up to that sort of work for sure.
