Just got a GB

I might now order a new one to leave in the box for a rainy day. It's a well liked knife!!!

I've stopped doing that, mostly, but I did it with the GB. At street price...for that knife...it wasn't too hard a call.

You and me, bro. I did that quite a bit every time I found a candidate "The KNIFE";). Then the next "The Knife" would ship and I would be 'why did I get two (cough-cough;)) of that one?

But the GB is a special knife. And as you say, for the price.... So what do I still have "pre-need replacements" of? Lil'T, Dodo, DPUKPK, P'kal, Phoenix and now GB. I'm not unhappy with that list. I could live with any one of those as my "only".

Others that "seem" like that are actually variants eg 3 Milies - each in a different steel and such.

Yeah, I did that too;) You just never know, right?

BTW - I modded my EDC one, just a bit to fit my prefs:

Great patina too !!

Been trimming some tree's branches in the garden today. Very impressive cutter !

Thanks! I really like the way it looks like this... Like this knife needs even MORE character....

I gotta say, I vastly prefer the wire clip on it too.

Uhh, yeah, guilty as charged on that one, but I don't count variants with different steel in that category, either. :D

Did you apply bluing to the blade, or something else?

It was actually just a couple hours in apple cider vinegar. I would think doing some heavy duty onion/potato slicing would yield a similar result if you weren't TOO quick to clean it off. Just take a bit more time.

Ken

Good question as mine after two weeks of kitchen duty is still shiny.

I was having the same experience (with a quick, regular rinse, wipe and dry) but I wanted to see what it would take to get the M4 to react. Given my experience in the kitchen, it really happened more quickly than I'd anticipated. It really isn't a difficult steel to keep shiny with nominal care.

My M2 knives get patina at the speed of light but M4 is a lazy steel ! :D

Been used on very hard plastic and it's like cutting hot butter...
I love a steel which allows such a shallow grind ! CPM M4 rocks ! Really !

might have to pick one up, but it wont be for a while, as I have a carpenter green manix en route. I gotta say though, that bradley is the first knife in a long time to really catch my attention

I'm considering this knife but the lack of a choil makes me a bit apprehensive. Has anyone had any problems with your fingers sliding forward onto the blade?

Nope. This is pure trick of the mind. Pure fantasy to imagine that kind of fumbling.

Perharps you need to hold it to understand why your fingers are really safe.
See my other posts about its design.
The choil is not the deepest but the handle is well made and I cannot imagine how you could have your fingers sliding forward...

When I stab with the GB: hammer grip with the edge up.
So my fingers are even not using the choil.
No problem so far.

Do u need to stab often??

Not that often especially with a folder.;)

But I was reconditionning some big blue plastic containers this week.
I was able to stab in the middle of it to start cutting with the GB.
An really the GB is a great hard plastic cutter thanks to its geometry....

Thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get one. Everything that I've read has been pretty positive. And they just look awesome. Thanks again.

You cant go wrong with the GB.
The design is classic (no bells and whistles) but versatile.
The lock is strong. Really strong.
The mechanism is smooth and perfectly stable.
And that hard steel permits a very high performance grind.

I drive a beemer and everytime I start it, I got 'that' grind on my face.:D
I got that grin when I see the ease I can cut hard matters with the GB.;)
I'm amazed by the performance of that folder.
And I have "driven" a lot of Spyderco. (I'm also in deep love with a Baby Goddard, but this is another story, and my Tie Millie is the "spydiemilestone" I was waiting for ten years...).

The CPM M4 steel has given the opportunity to grind a very shallow grind.
The sharper the blade, the less the mechanism is on charge.
It's a win win situation.
Such a blade on a slipjoint or a friction folder could have been a winner.
But now the liner lock mechanism give a incredibly smooth action.

cheers
Nemo:D
