Just got a new PM2 and my first Spyderco.

sunandsteel, I believe you may have the same issue I had with a stiff PM2. I didn't realize the pivot screws on both sides were actually screws that sandwiched a D-shaped pivot "barrel". I could loosen one side way up and it was still stiff opening. The moment I broke the other side loose, everything changed. I was able to center my blade and establish a pivot with zero blade play and a completely free pendulum swing with the compression lock depressed. Add a little locktite and good2go.

Got mine yesterday, a little stiff OTB but it's starting to loosen up and break in really well, I can thumb flick it, but I can only just get it open with my finger

I dunno, I did and it swung very freely but it had quite a bit of play soi tightened it back to where it was. It is a little smoother after I broke the screws loose. I also adjusted the stop pin screws a bit and that improved the smoothness.

The PM2 is pretty sensitive to tension in the screws throughout the body. They all factor in to how tight the action feels. I'd say loosen them all up a tiny bit, then tighten them up until you get just the right feel. Doing that, you can actually tighten down the pivot pretty hard (thereby removing play) and have a knife that is relatively centered and swings freely.

There's a specific sequence to it I've seen mentioned, but for the life of me, I can't remember what it is. It's either front to back or back to front though, so a little experimentation should work it out for you.

I figured out how to open with my middle finger and a slight "flick," though really it's almost more of an... Air-tap, I guess, not really sure how to describe it. Novel, but frankly uncomfortable.

+1 for thumb opening. Can be flicked with ease or guided. That's my preference anyways.

I have a PM2 and it is pretty stiff. Not able to flick it open. Blade sticks half way out. Did manage to cut my thumb pretty well. Then to top it off, one of the clip screws stripped when I tried to move the clip. What a pain that was to get fixed! Not sure I am feeling the love for this one.
I use my middle finger to deploy the blade. When loosing screws one should always heat the head of the screw with a soldering pencil to free up the loctite. Hope this helps.

Open it with your thumb.

Egg-zackly! Use that opposable thumb the way it was intended. If you've been using flippers or studs it may take some breaking in of the knife and your muscle memory to get it to flick out.

When I received my brand new PM, adding a drop of Nano oil on the detent ball did the job for me. I can flick it immediately with my thumb or index finger after this without wrist action. No adjusting of the pivot is required for me. Hope this helps.

I have edc'd spyderco for years. You just have to play with it, the knife will break in, and you will also refine your technique a la "Maslow's levels of mastery". Don't give up on it too easy, the pm2 is easily one of my top 3 carry knives.

That's just what I did is use it and break it in. I could whittle a hair and it's smooth as butter. :D

I adjusted the body screws and pivot, it now has almost no bladeplay and fires out lie a rocket with either thumb or index finger :D my new favorite edc
