Why be Pessimistic? My Dad has a gym in his basement that he uses at least twice each week for the past 10 years.
It's up to everyone to decide their own fate.

I dunno about this whole exercise thing... over the past half year I've been doing a lot more exercise, and I've gained around 15 lbs.

My body fat composition went up too - from 4% to 6%.

I feel fat. Maybe I'll look into this whole liposuction thing.

Treadmills always seemed a waste to me. Roads are free, and you get things big hills that really get you motivated. And sometimes it rains or snows so you can cool down as you run.

A post in questionable taste was split off from this thread and moved to the Whine & Cheese forum.

I've been using a treadmill for about 6 years now. It's helped a lot with keeping my blood sugar under control. I've got a CD player velcroed to the wall next to the treadmill and listen to classic rock to help pass the time. I use it pretty consistently (3-4 times a week) and highly recommend one.

Exersize is one of the most important things you can do for yourself. I think it's a major factor in keeping not only physical well being but mentally as well. I would much rather run or walk outside than do it on a treadmill or indoor track. When you are outside your level of attention is higher to avoid curbs, sticks, cars, etc... Dealing with the weather can be a factor as well, be it 100 degree heat, cold rain or ice. It just makes it more interesting and challenging to me.

I used to race bikes when I was younger and the best thing about that sport was the eating. You burned so many calories that when you wern't riding you were constantly eating (anything you wanted) and never a worried about gaining weight. Heck, even while you were riding you had to eat to keep from bonking!

I've been in school, and very busy, with no motivation to get out. And when I do, it's always at night. It's really just a matter of convenience, after all, I do live in Ohio.

But your dad is a really smart and dedicated guy... he would not have gotten through all he has just bein smart- he needed the followthrough part too... I always did respect him...

Especially if it has a continuous use motor, some kind of shock absorbing ability and incline. A Precor EFX Elipitical Trainer is even better, you can isolate muscle groups by incline and altering forward and backward movement.
