I was looking thru some 40 ft of glass cases and the lady beside me saw Spyderco knives... One was black, the spring mech had a Orange circle around it.. $499 :O Then, She and her Husband both showed off their 2 spyderco's, a paramilitary 2 in digi scales, and a small black one she had. Thing was- they acted all uppity, and too good for anyone who doesn't own a spyderco knife. I'm 999% sure I'll never buy a $500 pocket knife :jerkit SMiley doesn't belong in the general discussion areas, read the rules:.... that I'd be scared to do chores with for an EDC. My SOG Mini Trident has been working perfectly.

I was kinda bummed about the above experience, but kept walking around trying to find something cool. Later at the show, one of the knife sharpener guys saw my pocket knife clip n asked to see my knife (Sog mini Trident).. he looked it up n down, felt the edge with his finger... cut some paper with it; handed it back n said, "Nothing I can do to that,, that's nice. Who sharpened it?" I told him I did! :) I told him I use arkansas stones, and leather strop/compound, and I've had it for 3 years. It cuts round hay bale plastic twine all the time.. anything else I need. I do weekly touch ups as required. I felt very vindicated/proud! :)

I bought a Morakniv 11824SS Swedish SS tonight in black/orange for $25... seems like it has a good review or two? I overpaid for it... It was an impulse buy, but not that bad of one- price wise?! I though it would make a nice fishing knife being bright freaking orange, and won't get lost in the boat/truck?! I like the locking bright orange sheath that came with it.

Its sad that you feel you overpaid, because you spent $25 on a high quality knife that has a stellar reputation and you will be able to hand down to your kids. That's what the internet has done to us.

You are right to feel proud of your SOG, my $25 Ontario Rat 2 is one of the sharpest knives I own, I am proud of that!

/\ :)

No I thought I only over paid by like $5-$10?! And that doesn't bother me.. it's arm hair shaving sharp right now! Btw, I don't have any kids... yet that I know about?! Best part of that Sog mini Trident is I won it on a Facebook Contest, and they shipped it for free! :) But I have used it on anything/everything... I haven't out right abused it, but then again I respect all knives!

I bet I looked thru several hundred knives tonight... that's what I like! F them uppity people with their spyderco "I'm too good for you" attitudes. I know not all people are the same/ that's just what they were carrying fyi.

I think that you can immediately tell if a knife was cared for....... that's what makes it valuable IMO! Any "ID10T" can drop a ton of $$ on a nice knife.. but to take care of/ make something better than it was, use it like it was designed is my thoughts on knives. I'm sure a ton of folks may misunderstand, but it's the way I was raised and I won't ever change my values! :) You can keep your "vault knifes"; I'd rather have something I'm not afraid to use! :p

Gun shows are a notoriously bad place to buy knives. Between inflated prices, and fakes, and sellers who don't know knives, I'm not surprised when people complain about knife shopping at gun shows.

And just a heads-up, but the "jerk-it" emoticon you used is not allowed in General Knife Discussion, it's only for Whine & Cheese. You might want to edit that out before you get dinged by a moderator. I'm not trying to play moderator, just giving you a heads-up. Welcome to Bladeforums :).

Nice! Don't get too attached to the mora, or you'll end up with one in arms reach in every room in the house :D! I say, with modern knives, I'd be willing to pay 200 for a really nice knife that can take and hold an edge for a long time, for all my abrasive cutting tasks. NOT FOR ABUSING THOUGH THATS WHAT MORAS ARE FOR! I'm a traditional guy, but would like to buy a nice modern knife sometime. Oh and a few more Moras.

If I added up the cost of every knife I've bought over the last 10 years, we'd be talking a lot more than $500. Buy what you like is what I always say, no one's business but your own. One thing to remember is that your reaction to the "uppity Spyderco people" made you sound and probably look just as bad if not worse. People are different, have different budgets, and have different tastes. As stated, gun shows are a bad place to buy knives, they are a haven for counterfeit items, and usually sell at a very inflated prices. Then again, the Spyderco Rubicon, which is the knife with the orange color you saw is actually one of the more expensive pieces, Not really my speed based on the design, but disregarding a company completely and the people that happen to like them is a bit on the ignorant side, just my opinion is all.

From the OP, it looks like the Rubicon was about $200.00 over priced.

Btw, I know sarcasm doesn't come across the keyboard... I wasn't meaning ALL Spyderco fans... Just these two people because of how they acted towards me. FYI, I had enough $$ on me to buy 8x $500 spyderco's.. doesn't mean I'd pay for it? That's just my opinion.

Dang, I knew You Folks knew your stuff... that's the knife those folks were about to buy for $500! You sir, know your stuff!

Either way... I found something there that was pretty cheap price wise that I think was well worth the minor cost. I'll see how it performs this summer, We catch tons of fish here, and hunt everything else is always available- How epic/famous are Iowa Whitetail Big Bucks?! :) Right now about the only thing open is coyotes (year round). Next hunting season to come up is spring turkey season.. and my family considers me the "Turkey Slayer". 5 out of 6 seasons with a bird.. didn't get 6th in a row because I couldn't get back home from overseas when I was active duty fyi. We've killed a few 30-36 lb turkeys at my Dad's farm.

From the OP, it looks like the Rubicon was about $200.00 over priced.

Sounds high even for MSRP.

And now you know why I walked away...

Seriously, I know that folks who show off knives at gun/knife shows mark stuff up.. they have to pay for gas/time/entrance fee, and table fees to make it worth their while. I get it, I really do. But it is fun to get a chance to go see, handle a ton of knives not available locally. It's pretty rural here... Iowa :P Go figure lol!

Sounds like you're a Mora Fan? This is my first one... Care to share any Mora experiences? I'd like to hear them all :)

"Mora is better" (more is better)
Then many higher priced blades out there.
Lightweight, razor sharp, easy to maintain, and for the price, they are just an awesome value...
I like to throw them in with other purchases from time to time, (actually have one in route as I type this). Be it a sub $100 purchase where many sites offer free shipping on orders at around $90-100, if I'm say at $85 + $5 shipping, I'll toss in a $10-15 Mora, why not... Or, if it's a higher priced order, say I'm already spending $190, every now and again I justify throwing in a Mora, because, well.. Just because. They just great to have around, great as gifts, you definitely did OK... Price was a bit higher the online retailers offer, but once you factor in shipping, or overall cost of a full order to qualify for free shipping at many online retailers, you really didn't do too bad, and paying a 40% markup on a Mora, surely beats paying a 40% markup on a Benchmade or Spyderco...

Oh yeah, I love a mora. Best darn value, and they're faster to deploy than any switchblade.
