Had a neighbor's cat literally tied up in the top of a pine tree about 25 feet up. Somehow he got run up the tree and his tail got twisted and literally tied in a knot around a small limb. Tail was broke, cinched tight and he wasn't going anywhere. Just found him but been hearing him cry for about 4 days.

Anyway, point of the story is there was way too many briars and bramble to go through to carry a chain saw in. Took a Lite machete and an axe. Tree was about 14 inches at the base. Most of the work was done with the machete since it was so close in the thicket and I would have had to clear a lot of brush and vines to really swing the axe. Got the tree down relatively fast. It got hung up and had to do some more chopping and finally climb it and shake it to the ground. Had to physically un-tie the cats tail. Never seen anything like this before. Cat is doing fine, just a strange looking broke tail. Lite Machete is awesome. I would take it ANY day over the Junglas for this type of work. Yeah, all these companies with their big ass choppers need to take me on in a chopping contest with my machete.

glad the cat came out all right. I've cleared alot of brush around my arena and round pen with the machette its perfect for undergrowth and small trees.

take it easy

I guess the old adage was correct. "There is more than one way to skin a cat."

or um ..... chop down a tree. ;);)

I would have never believed that a cat could somehow tie their own tail into a hard knot until I saw this.

i was waiting for the recipe featuring "1 Cat, properly cooked"

just kidding!

good for you on rescuing the cat. no doubt some people would have probably just shot the poor thing.

Sweetness. I do like a good machete. Weird story though. The strangest things happen to you, I swear.LOL.

Good on you for rescuing the cat, my daughters told me tell you thank you.

I'm an animal lover, up and to the point they start destroying property. Then I'm a full blooded assassin.

Yep. Might have been a bit bigger than that honestly

Hell in SA we chop through 24 inch (and larger) trees blocking our waterway on a regular basis with machetes.

Just learned something here. I've always been told that machetes where only good for soft stuff and that thicker branches would destroy machetes. This is what I like. Learning from those who have done it instead of those who just talk about it.

You are a machete master.

Bullshit. it liked to have killed me. Seriously. I'm outta shape after the bout with pneumonia. Plus we were on someone else's property and he hates people on his property. Couldn't get in touch with him to let him know what was up so we just wanted to get it done fast ;)

seems to me that animal made you destroy part of some property, trees don't grow overnight you know:D

glad you liked the machete, I also agree (though I don't own a Junglas) that a machete is by far more superior then most choppers or knives for that matter.. now a gear queer's opinion may differ.. :p

sorry I had to go there.. nice tale (pun) Jeff, and that is very bizarre about the tail, my thought it was overly exited about thrashing the bird or whatever, you know how cats get their tails going..

take care,

Rob

i've chopped through a christmas tree with my machete before, the maximum width was about 6" and made quick work of it. gonna have to get me a lite machete at some point.

Absolutely and would do it again to help a neighbor's pet out if the property owner can't be reached. And will be MORE than happy to pay him for any and all damages that we caused by cutting down one of his trees. Not a problem. In fact, when I see him again I'm going to tell him what I did and offer to pay him.

I never believe one sided stories..

I have a cheapo tramotina I've poorly modified from 18" to a 14" golok.. that sits outside by my wood pile, I've batoned the snot outta that think, torqued it on knots, comes back true.. the think will poorly still cut paper, but I'm telling you I'm trying to break this sucker but it keeps on ticking, going on now over 2 weeks of everynight abuse against oak, hickory, blackjack you name it..

its used to obtain kindling from fire wood.....

I didn't catch your post above mine, as time specific. but I would have addressed my post differently..

He'll probably want your machete over any payment anyway:D
