Just got finished with some chopping

The last 3 inches or so that was holding the tree up (after chopping all the way around) was severed but hitting the spine of the machete with the axe head and driving it into the tree.

After playing with my Junglas for a while I'm really thinking hard about selling it and either getting a machete (and pocketing the rest of the money) or buying another axe. It's a nice knife, but doesn't really do anything all that great other than look cool. And putting such a cool-looking knife with me does the knife a great injustice, it should be in the hands of a much cooler person.

Cutting down a 14" tree with a machete is pretty dang impressive. I don't even tackle those with the axe very often. Chainsaws are brilliant little pieces of equipment :D

Just hope its not a tree farm seed tree. That could get expensive!

Pine trees down here are cheap. But it is what it is. I wasn't going to let the cat stay another night in the tree especially since we have a winter storm moving in tonight.

one of my kitties is on the desk, giving me a bunch of loving and staring at the screen. he's either trying to get me to thank you for rescuing his kitty cousin, or saying "pix or it didn't happen!" :p

the dawg is under the desk, snoring away, and the other cat is probably sleeping on my bed.

Wished I could have gotten a saw in there. Briars were way too thick to be carrying a saw and bushwhacking a path

There were numerous times this summer I wished for a machete in conjunction with my saw while clearing brush and timber. In the end I just ended up learning how to clear thorns and brush with the chainsaw. And 18" bar has just enough length that if you swing it around it will cut brush, green briar, gooseberry, etc. away. It is much more inefficient that a machete would be though.

I've cut countless Eastern Red Cedar trees as well, which also requires clearing a path to the trunk of the tree through the branches. The technique for that is more or less to walk toward the tree while waving the saw in front of you.

talk about a coincidence

just happened to come across a 500 pound piece of cedar wood. i think i am gonna chop myself silly :D

whats the name of that green plant (looks like some type of grass) growing in the background of your photo?

Nice save. I hope you remembered to wear your tactical safety glasses.

If I can get Jeff to insult you, will you lower your price? :p

yup safety glasses, gloves, etc. there was another piece about the same size but i dont need 1000 pounds of cedar

@ R.A.T.: Cool story.

Yep, I'll use that in some local bars to pick up the topless dancers. Of course I will have to add that there was 2 feet of snow on the ground and hungry mountain lines at my feet as I was saving this poor little kitten.
