In Ohio, Miami Whitewater Forest seems to be really great. http://www.greatparks.org/parks/miamiwhitewater.htm.
4,279 acres.
85-acre lake with fishing.
130-acre restored Shaker Trace Wetlands with a wildlife viewing shelter located along the Shaker Trace Trail.
Frisbee golf course, three nature trails, two Parcours Fitness Trails and an equestrian trail.
18-hole golf facility with driving range, cllubhouse and snack bar.
46-site campground and picnic and shelter areas.
Soccer complex for games and practices.
Wet playground for kids.
Lake area with paddle boats equipped with cannons.
Two-floored Visitor Center with nature displays and Nature's Niche gift store.

I've heard nothing but good things about this place, but I've never been there.

Very sorry to hear about losing your job.

curious; what kind of job ?

Did they think you were going to commit "workplace violence?" That's the new hotty right there. You have to be a puss now...or else.

LOL well I do carry my RC-3Mil as my work knife but no. The superviser she never liked me from the get go because I would never bend to her every whim. I did everything by the books so if she told me to do something that wasn't right I would tell her i couldn't do it for her. She liked to skip steps where i didn't. What a Bit** but at the same time I realy don't care. I just want to go some were realy nice and outdoors for a week to clear my thoghts so keep them coming.

I thought of another good place in Ohio; Hueston Woods. Both places I mentioned are on the South West section of the state.

So, in other words, you were terminated for insubordination. RAT. :D

No she tried that before but I always had my S.O.P book to back me up. But let keep the thread to what is ment for finding a good get away.

P.s no disrespect Don but I don't want the thread to go off topic hop you understand.:)

If you are through with the job, I hope you find something even better in the future. Sounds like your old supervisor would have been hard to work for.

A week of camping should help you move on.

glefic, sorry to hear about your situation. Wouldn’t it be too cold for outdoor camping in Michigan? When I say camping, I mean a thin nylon tent and bathing in a river. Some folks use a $200K custom made bus for camping, so the definition is wide and varied. I wish you best and I hope you find something better in the near future. Can you collect unemployment (little $, but better than $0).

Yep tarp is what i have in mind or cabins are nice to the wife would come with then. But some people like it hot I like it cold so the colder the better. You get to make bigger fires lol.

True, bigger fires are alot more fun. I live in Ct., we have had a somewhat mild winter so far high temps in the 40's, but next weeks forecast has the temp bottoming out to single digits. The meteorologist discussed a cold front coming from the north over the eastern part of the US over the next few days & into next week. Take caution wherever your going, you wouldn’t want to get stuck out in the extreme cold unprepared. Too many stories of people getting lost or stranded out in the middle of "no where" and rescuers finding them several days later...

Well since you got about a week, I would head to WV or PA. I love hiking in WV, a week is probably a lot more time than needed, but if your just going to hike in and relax you could probably make some time out of it. My picks would be:

WV
Otter Creek Wilderness
Dolly Sods Wilderness

PA
Laurel Highlands hiking trail (bridge is currently out over the turnpike- so you cant do the whole 70 miles)
Anywhere in the Allegheny National Forest (go to the website and it lists all the trails) You could do a few 1-2 day hikes- example Hickory creek wilderness is typically a 1. 5 day hike leasurely.

if it wasn't the middle of winter, I'd suggest Michigan - the northern part of the mitten - sleeping bear national park (giant sand dunes) and Macinac island.

But some people like it hot I like it cold so the colder the better. You get to make bigger fires lol.

I can't really help you with a camp site, but I just had to say this made me laugh. I like your style!

I saw a post on another board where two guys went camping in about -14F if I remember correctly (may have been 14F, I'm just not sure). All they took for shelter was two poly tarps and they slept in their wool over-shirts and hats. They made a teepee with the tarps and then made a long fire in the teepee between them for heat and used a bunch of cattails for bedding. They said they were reasonably comfortable all things considered, and they would do it again. Biggest problem was getting the smoke to go out of the top correctly.
