She told me I am running out of nice shirts. I get the urge and before you know it I am in the garage grinding away with my shirts that I wear to the office. Ruined two this past two weeks. I better straigten up before she takes away my knifemaking privledges. Do you stock removers use aprons and if so what kind? HF had some I think. Thanks.

If grinding and stock removal is anything like welding, you might want to invest in a nice welding jacket (~$30). Easy to throw on and protects you from just about everything except dripping metal.

Not sure if I quallify as a knife maker but I do wear a leather welders apron from HF when I go out to the shop to grind. It unfourtunately did nit stop a spark from going in my ear ealier tonight.

I feel ya pancho. I got yelled at today by my girlfriend for wearing my new pants into the shop.

I just wear dark clothes so it doesn't show as much and keep a good shirt or two for when I have to run into town.

Real men grind bare chested! :D

That being said, I wear one of these leather Woodturner's aprons from Woodcraft. It has a collar that keeps crap from going down your neck. Of course it doesn't cover your arms, so your shirts might still be at risk. What about wearing an inexpensive jacket, sweatshirt, or maybe a leather welder's jacket?

Welding jackets might be nice in winter. I settled on the dickies work shirts. If your really fashion conscious Wal-mart is now carrying the Jesse James line:jerkit:

I use a cheap HF apron. Since it's been cool lately, an old leather jacket works well also.

I treat it like work. I have work shirts. I never wear a good shirt in shop. save lots of grief. Now my tennis shoes are different story.

my tennis shoes are black and thy where once white :D ya when i was married i was always in trouble for destroying shirts. I love forge welding shirts that have a burn line right across the belly. there great.

I have a heavy duty denium apron that I use . Got it form a wood workers store. No arms but keeps the worst off. My trouble was always dripping epoxy on things. Have several jeans that shouldnt wear out until through the epoxy.

Wouldn't happen if you wear hearing protection. I'm only 33 and I have profound hearing loss from jet engines in the military, growing up as the son of a logger and running power tools in my shop. It will creap up on you. It's not worth it.

Just hang a grungy shirt in the shop on your grinder or something. Then, when you walk in, you have to move it before you start anyways, so you may as well just put on the shop shirt ;)

Pancho havent ya heard about yard sales...I pick up all kinds of denim shirts for almost nothing some are even nice enough to wear out. When you get home just make it a habit to change shirts or clothes before doing anything else. That way when the urge to grind hits you she wont yell..By buying shirts at yard sales and goodwill she cant yell about you ruining any of them..Yea aprons help but I am always to lazy to put it on or should I say hurry to work and forget it.Disposable work shirts are best..LOL
Bruce
PS: I always wear work shirts and only put good clothes on when Donna says I have to dress nice.works for me....
