~Madd Maxx III
~3" blade
~Double ground edge with false edge on top
~CF inlay
~Spring assisted opener

Just found out that if I switch this to tip up, it waves easily and consistently. At the moment I'm keeping it tip down because I don't care to wave it. That might change later on.

I can't afford a camera because I keep wasting all of my extra dough on knives, so here's a picture that I didn't take:

That thing is sick. Did you have it today when you were at Mel's?

Nope. I found it in the mail box after I got back today @ 4pm or so. I picked up an Opinel at Mel's to have a knife I can mess up and sharpen whenever I feel like. I'm gonna be nervous trying to use or sharpen my the Hard 1 and the Madd Maxx really hard.

Thanks for the comments Keith and TKC.

I forgot to ask in my first post, but does this model have DDR's maxxx glide in it?

I'm not sure. I don't know if they started implementing the Maxx glide in the 4th generation. I sent an email asking what the difference was between the 3rd and 4th gens. I'll let you know when I found out.

Also, you can't tell from the pic, but there's some really nice heat coloring/anodizing on the sides of the frame. It's blue/purple.

Nice and simple. Personally I prefer his more elaborate versions with damascus and such, but this is a very nice folder.

Kind regards,

Jos

Darrel's Madd Maxx series is my favorite folder design!

3rd and 4th gen differences are gripper gooves he uses, inlay styles and he went back to a less domed handle. If it is assisted open there is a good chance the Maxx Glide isn't present.

Hey, I'd love a damascus version too, but I'd never be able to let myself use it (not to mention afford it). This one's for EDC. Thanks for the input.

This is definitely one of my grails. In fact, I'm taking a break from buying anymore knives for a while now before I get too irresponsible with my money. Thanks for the info Dirk.

Nice score!!!!!...... I didn;t know a person could be called irresponible with money when buying knife after knife after knife.....congrats!!!!!!

It's one thing if you got all the extra cash for it, it's another if you should probably be putting it towards other priorities.

That most ALL of us, but you work hard so you can play hard. :D

BTW if your dropping that many bills on a EDC, its time to go edge pro. ;)

That is a slick looking knife! I am thinking of trying one out. Are his knives shaving sharp? How are they to maintain on a sharpmaker?
Thanks and Congrads!

Actually Wali, I saw your post on USN asking about that Madd Maxx for sale (from JCMiller) and it was sold to me. I love this knife. The fit and finish is simply outstanding. The knife didn't come very sharp and the edge angle was very obtuse for my taste. It couldn't shave when I got it. I narrowed the edge on my diamond stone and now it whittles hair.

I am still kicking myself for not picking up one of these when Steel Addiction had one. I kept looking at it, and looking at it....I love DDR's work.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the great words!

Wali,
Out of the box "new" they will shave. Touch up is a breeze on most sharpening units.

Here is some eye candy and a preview of some of the knives for the NY show next weekend.
