Pics will come. It's late and I'm tiiiiired.

I was just wondering if anyone else has done this. I saw a tutorial of sorts on YouTube of someone doing it with river rocks and a large peanut butter jar. Now, I realize I will need a fairly long container for my NEW BK5!!!!!!!!!, but I was hoping to see some pics, just for reassurance. First things first, I'll get to stripping it tomorrow or whenever I happen to purchase some stripper and a disposable pan to do it in. Then comes the round stones and WD40 in a Pringles (lol) can or something.

Anyway, I love the look of a stone washed finish, and I plan to get some nice wood handles and a leather sheath. I am not sure what I want exactly, but it'll be pure class, all the way when it's done

i'd use a piece of PVC about six inch diameter, and put a solid end cap on one end (with the right glue of course)... and a screw on lid the other side; though if you want to MAKE SURE it doesn't leak/spill and ruin your dryer or whatever, solid cap on the other side. put in knife, rocks, and oil. tumble!

Any recommendations on the type of oil?

Also, using a PVC pipe is a much better idea than taking your wife's tupperware container and trying to do the same. One, PVC is stronger, two, you won't piss of your wife, but you definitely will if you break the dryer. Probably throw in a bunch of towels in the dryer also to mitigate the shock and sound.

oh, mineral oil? something easy :> even water...

i'd wrap the PVC in a few spiral layers of foam, then wrap the thing in a towel, and some duct tape. mind the ends too. THEN put 3 pillows in, and put your pod in the middle. it's just needs to spin, not bounce. should be totally quiet.

Wow. You have the at home stone wash method down to a science. I wouldn't have thought to do the above steps on my own. I'm gonna try this on my BK7.

i've done similar, and i've been thinking about it for a while :)

Eh it was worth asking. Sounds like a cool idea to me. Perhaps a project down the road.

Brilliant!

PVC hadn't even occurred to me. Thanks!

if i had the space, and a dryer, i'd probably disable the heat, and use that expanding foam, and permanently inset a tumbling module...

though for all that effort, i'd probably mount a cylinder on two bearing surfaces, with a belt, and a simple motor. rock tumbler on steroids.

If I had an extra drier it would be getting the brick treatment...

I nearly tinkles I was laughing so hard

Another quick question:

Before I buy the stripper, would sand blasting the finish off be better? My former father-in-law has a sand blaster, and I am welcome to use it if I'd like. I suspect that stripper would be less labor, but sand blasting might leave a better finish for the stone washing... ???

Protein shake container might work too. Also, one of the other fellows wraps the whole deal in towels, and I think that's probably smart.

That would require that I purchase and consume a whole container of whey protein in the next couple days. I just don't have that much TP in the budget right now
