And man is it AWESOME!!!

Here it is next to most of my other fixed blades:

I found the Gunny waiting for me when I got home. I nearly tore through Derrick's nicely wrapped package with my teeth in my excitement. Obviously haven't used it yet, I've only cut a few pieces of paper just to cut something before going to bed.

Initial in-hand impressions are very much comforting; I had doubts that the handle would feel as good as that on the Bravo-1, but I am sure glad to be wrong in this instance. The handle feels just as comfortable as that on the Bravo-1 if not better - the shape and size are just superb. I already foresee that my Gunny will be THE preferred knife for short dayhikes, maybe even for off-trail treks and longer backpacking trips as well (though the 5" Scout might be my go to in that department, we'll see :D). It is light/small enough to be unobtrusive on your belt, and the ergonomic design really allows the knife to melt into your hand. The blade thickness is just about perfect in my opinion; it fits this size knife so well. It looks to be a great slicer, though I'll have to wait to play with it more to confirm this for myself.

And as you noticed, I asked Derrick to have BRKT remove the ramp, like my SS Bravo-1, and really square the spine for me if possible. I wanted this Gunny to throw sparks as well as my F1 does, we'll see how it does tomorrow or this weekend .

I plan on doing a proper review when I get out to use it. Before the "Use your Knives" police jump on me, let me just say that I've been studying for an exam these past few months and haven't had much time to get outside. All of the knives in that pic are less than half a year old so yes, they are still pretty. I've had the F1 and RC4 the longest, the NWA Scout is still brand-spanking new, and the SS Bravo hasn't seen as much use as its A2 brother did (which I have sold). I'll be done next month, so I'll be able to really use and post proper reviews on my Scout, Gunny, and the new W&SS necker that I forgot to include in the pic above:

Just wanted to share my head-splitting-grin excitement, thanks for looking :).

Looks like a fine collection of great knives you have there. Looking forward to your full review.

Thanks guys, and I can't wait to do the full reviews. I've never done one yet, but after reading quite a few great ones here, I think I could do a decent job now

Interesting to see the handle size of that compared to the F1. I've a good size hand span and I never found the F1 handle too small, but I've seen a few comments that assert it is not big enough. That BRKT looks a good deal smaller. That said, the F1 handle seems to have a bunch more usable handle than the Rowen so perhaps there's a photographic peculiarity misleading me.

right on Russell... congrats.. those Gunny's are cool... i was thinking about picking one up for myself, for my birthday....:D

Nice collection. I have a Gunny on order too from DLT Trading. Just waiting for Mike to grind off that pesky thumb ramp. I guess he should have made more without it.

Glad you liked it! Use it and enjoy it. Hopefully when you put up your review, I can put it on my site to get even more exposure!

I might have taken this pic at an angle, so I could brace my arm to prevent camera shake; the pic might indeed be a misleading. I will take better comparison pics when I do the reviews (and spine view shots etc.). To me, in this pic, the RC4 looks a bit wider than the F1 along the entire length of the handle, but the F1 looks a little longer. The RC4 feels a tad bit wider in hand, and I find that width does more for my comfort than the length of a handle (if we're not talking drastic differences in length). ETA: Have to edit to say that the difference in width between the F1 and RC4 is very small to me.

What you point out is precisely why I was apprehensive about the Gunny. The fit of the Bravo-1 is absolutely perfect for me (perhaps only surpassed by the NWA Scout in a saber grip). From all the pics I'd seen previously, the Gunny handle looked quite a bit smaller. But I was very much pleased to discover that the Gunny was no less comfortable in my hand than the Bravo. I suspect it has something to do with the contouring - that even if you shrink the overall scale, it still feels comfortable in hand because it fits into the layout of your palm in just the right way. I think as long as the handle size falls within a certain buffer zone, identical or similar contours will provide a comfortable grip even if they differ in size/scale.

I think the Sierra Scout handle is a related case; I generally like a palm swell on a knife, but that concave shape w/ finger indentation really works on his knife. Although the handle is not as wide as the Bravo-1 and perhaps completely opposite in contour, in a saber grip, the knife just locks into place (scale thickness is no doubt a consideration as well, will show comparison shots in my reviews). It's a completely different contour, but it still provides an excellent grip.

For whatever reason, the Gunny handle seems to fit just right, based on initial impressions.

Mike, I think you definitely should man, I have a feeling this is right up your alley. Especially considering you like the Bravo-1 as well!

I agree! I wanted to pick up the Gunny when KSF had the rampless ones listed, but they were sold out by the time I was ready to order. Derrick was quick though, had a stock one sent to BRKT, modded, and back to me in no time .

holy #%^# that is nice!

Fonly, you know you need one, man :D.

Glad you liked it! Use it and enjoy it. Hopefully when you put up your review, I can put it on my site to get even more exposure!

Will do Derrick! And I guess I better do a good job on the review then!:D

What's the top knife in the 1st picture? Is that a Bailey's?

That's a Nick Allen (NWA Knives, check out his sub-forum in the Makers section) Sierra Scout. Truly one fantastic piece of craftsmanship

The moore I see this knife the more I need it, U guys are sick!

Get Down with the Sickness!! :p

or if your prefer: Resistance is Futile.

Cool. I only wondered about the F1 vs RC4 because of all the criticism I've read here of the F1 the only one I've retained as having a potential for legs is that the handle is too short, although not in my case. And I think it was Hollowdweller that drew my attention to the actual amount of useful handle on the RC4 if one doesn't press the choil into service. I'm with on the width aspect though. I've taken bets in confidence that people tend to underestimate the length of a circumference vs a straight line. So how a relatively small difference can use up finger meat quite quickly is clear.

Anyway, that Gunny looks good to me. I don't like those 2 / 3 finger handle knives that seem in abundance at the moment but a well designed small one is a different can of worms entirely. Neat.

Those NWAs still jump out the page too. Lovely.

Looking forward to your review once you've had time to play.

Ha! Good stuff bro. I LOVE MY GUNNY, its a great blade. Mines seen ALOT of use, and is still a great go to blade.
