Just got my Survive! Knives GSO in 20CV in, questions

I have not tried a knife in 20cv, but I have had rust problems under the handle of my gso 4.1 in m390. Since m390 and 20cv are nearly identical, I imagine that the steels would react in a similar manner.

The rough surface of the holes for the screws in particular were having problems. I don't really care if the knife has a "rough" look of a working blade, but I think that better finishing might help with corrosion. I live in a fairly humid environment, but I can't think of any other time that I have had a problem with a stainless blade.
I have not had the same issue with My GSO 4.1 M390 model. So far so good....

Can you possibly shoot some photos of that over to workshop@surviveknives.com ?

I actually used a diamond coated dremel bit to remove the rust and smooth out the areas. Most people who have used survive knives don't seem to have a problem, so it is possible that it was surface contamination as you say. I will have to take some time for further evaluation.

How and where do you store your knife when it's not being carried?

I don't use any special storage precautions, but it is kept inside when not in use. I first noticed the problem after the knife got rained on when I was hiking. I dried it out, but when I later took off the scales I noticed the beginnings of some rust. I now keep a layer of 3-in-1 oil under the handle. It has been suggested to me that I might want to use something thicker. Do you have any suggestions?

I stand corrected the OP is correct.Took mine apart and inspected with a 20X loupe. There seems to be some surface oxidation on all the laser cutouts inside the scale handles.I broke out the dremel and used the diamond coated dremel bit to remove any oxidation and or contaminates. It took me about 5 minutes and I feel better now.I will lube the internals and put it back together...
A clean and lube my knife and store it outside the sheath in a humidity controlled safe....

Was it possibly heat treat oxidation in the bolt holes? The only other thing I could think is perhaps the people working with me last summer didn't wipe the blades down as well as they should have and some contaminated cutting powder from tumbling was left in there and able to fester over time. Hmm, that certainly is interesting though.

To anyone reading this, if you are having any sort of issues like this please always feel free to email us at workshop@surviveknives.com I'm always interested and exploration is how we improve. Otherwise it needs to happen here in the shop before we can do anything about it.

I do remember cleaning some material from the jimping and the pommel when the knife first came. The oxidation/contamination is no big issue and easily rectified with a little love..It is a reminder to me that just like firearms my knives need to be treated with the same care and preservation. The cleaning was easy and quite an enjoyable experience....
