Just got my zt 300

I just got my zt 300 in from knifeworks. in the comments i told them to give it a quick look over for scratches, imperfections and to make sure the sharpining on the blade was nice. when i got it near where it says kai 300 it seems there is some small pitting (or the coating didn't become totally smooth) in the coating . also after i looked over the blade really really close it seems that near the very bottom of it is a really small chip on the very edge of blade. also there was a scuff on the blade also. idk if i'm overreacting

i had to look really close to see the imperfection in the edge of the blade and the coating. IDK if i'm overreacting and no knife comes perfect but do u think i should send it back to them., i did note i wanted it looked over.

to use it if needed.... it's just i poped 235$ on the thing

i spent 35$ on a kershaw barrage from walmart and it was flawless.

idk maybe i'm overreacting the flaw in the blade u really do have to look really close to see it. and it's only visable from 1 side of the blade
 
The ZT300 is the best hard use folder for the money!


They did on hell of a job on that one... Now go beat the pee out of it. Yes the coating will scratch, yea the blade will dull... Sharpen it and let it wear it's battle scars with pride! :thumbup:

I honestly don't know how they are making any money selling it at $235... Fit and finish is way on up there on all th ones I'v had. The lock is Ti, blade is a huge slab of S30V, G-10..

You got a smoking knife! But it is yours and you need to do what you feel you need to do. Me? I would beat the tar out it and not care about the coating ;)

well the blade is weird though. i got out of strong light to look at it.

from one side i see no problem with it from the other side it looks like at one point it lost it's sharp edge with a very small chip then when i tilt it alittle it dosn't show the imperfection anymore. maybe it's lighting idk.
 
Send it back to ZT/Kershaw. At this point $10 to $20 is worth the piece of mind. Chances are, even with Knifeworks, it wasn't looked over. Part of doing online business I'm sorry to say . . .

Sometimes I feel coating a stainless steel is part of hiding imperfections. I had a 0300 that had a 1/2" long dip in the steel near the tip that you didn't see very easy due to the coating. I since sold it but for a loss, NIB after I discovered it. I disclosed it.

Update.

i talked to some1 from Kai about it. the pitting near the Kai emblem is very small and i did have to stick it under a light to acually get a good look at it. looks like it's just the coating unless u look really close. it's a patch of it that runs down the side of it. acually used a mag glass to see what it was. the guy from Kai said it's most likely the metal and not hte coating like i thought and if i did want to send it back he would make sure the knife came back to me flawless.

the blade problem was acually dirt on the blade that was giving and illusion that it had a chip it in.. clp took it right off and that's fine


idk if i'm going to send it back or not because the pitting is prob just it wasn't smoothed down correctly in that area b4 it was coated. it's really small and the knife is going to get beat up anyway. i just didn't want problems later on with it. my 0350 i would send back with it because the blade is hitting the very inside tip of the g10. alittle filing would fix it though. seems like i'm 0/2 with ZT's. i will say the 0350 and the 0300 are awesome knives though.

made this post to say that the Customer Service of Kai/kershaw/ZT is awesome. they will pick up the shipping and he said he would make sure it was fixed quickly and would come perfect. wanted to make sure i was 100% happy.
 
If it was me I would just keep it and use it. The coating is going to wear over time and you may end up with some rust spots on the bead blasted parts of the blade, I did. Either way after some use all the imperfections will start to blend in.
 
+1 on what most have said, use it! I don't think that I have gone over any knife I've bought like that. I bought my knives to use them and they wear each scratch and chip with honor. But if your truly unhappy with and in the back of your mind it will always bother you, then send it back to either ZT or knifeworks.
 
he said i don't have to send them in now. wait till i need them sharpened and send them in use them and if i'm every unhappy he will fix it.. I'm going to stop being a wuss over alittle imperfections and just keep it. i did get it to use it not look at it. i will go cut down a few 100 trees and build a house with it or something. if i ever run into a problem with it down the road with the small spots then i will send it in for warranty.


still going to have to find a dam small file for the g10 on the 0350 though that does annoy me

I would send it back if it bothers you to the point that you won't enjoy it and wont end up carrying it. Up in Canada they are $300 and at that price I would want to be happy with my purchase.

I would agree, but I still think that the 0200 takes that crown at half the price of the 0300 :D

Not that I am discriminating... I love them both!!!

oh i will still carry it. this is my first expensive knife maybe why i'm so uptight about it. was like 230$. the spots are really small and if i run into a problem with it later on he said i would get a new blade so i will just keep it. besides my uncle said he wouldn't send it back for that. there really small i wish i could post a pic.. i'm overeacting.



and the 200 is nice but i still think the 300 is betterz

better thumb grip, titainum, g10 spacer > none

I have them both and the 0200 is incedible for the price which is what was being discussed. For 2 x the price the 0300 better be a nicer knife!

Although if I could only have one it would be the 0200. It's blade is significantly more pointy, which I find more useful. Once you buy the 0200, and you will, then you'll understand that it's not to be overlooked in the ZT lineup :)
 
And Kershaw's CPM154CM is great steel. I actually prefer it over their S30V...

The 0200 is a beast of a knife, what's not to like?!

why would u prefer it over s30v?

it hold it's edge about 40% longer then 154cm

now cpm 154 might be a lot closer to s30v


as for the 200 being more pointy.. idk my 300 seems pointy enough for anything i would have to do

idk.. some people have told me u can get a crazy sharp edge on s30v some people can't.. idk


your making me want to send back the 300 and get a 200.. i just accepted the blemish in the blade on the 300 now i'm like.. should i send it back and get the 200.........STOP!
