Just got the "angel contest khukuri"!!!

That top one is a real beauty and quite unique. You must have paid a pretty penny for that one, John.

I told John that one looked like an Ethiopian Dromedary Khukuri (no cho, two humps). Now I'll probably get the flap from the junk Khuk box

Kukri "B" is worth another look since it is a very fine piece.

I would have to say it's a "late hanshee". The quality of the single fullered blade and the engraving are way above average and the scabbard work has incredibly fine stitching and edging. It is 16.5" o/a. There is no accomodation for a karda or chakmak which is unique, but the tinder pouch is well done and in excellent shape for a knife from the 1830s.

The knife has never seen a visible repair although it shows some blade staining at the ricasso which looks like damage in the other photo.

The top knife is one piece of metal and I guess was a stage or movie prop. El Junko

"Above average"? Very nice, indeed. What era/period saw the beginnings of the hanshee as a popular blade style? Rusty's surmise that it begin to wane with the end of armored warriors seems logical, but was there any single area which contributed to its' development.

Bill,
you a such a connoiseur! You almost think like an officer! What do you think the devilish DBs would do if that thing showed up under the bed? Guaranteed rejection.

Can you imagine showing the guys at BG this thing? You would hear them laughing all the way from Nepal.
