Well I have been wanting to try this style Bowie for a long time and when I visited Bob Hankins he gave me a Abalone shell,so I just had to try.Wish I had the guts too try the engraving on it now and the knowledge to do the gold plating in sections also.
Thanks for looking,
Bruce
Here are the specs:
6 inch forged 5160 blade
Nickel silver guard
Nickel silver handle with shaped piercings and abalone shell inlays

Yes Donna modeled with this one only it was as she was headed for work and she said she looks ugly in this picture:D

Beautiful knife -- I could only dream of making something that nice.

To think all I made today was a PB&J sandwich.

Hey that sounds GOOD..Think I will go make myself one of those also:cool: :D
Glad you like the way the new knife looks also,Thanks
Bruce

Bruce, you make us proud again! REALLY NICE! And that knife is a real great piece of work, too! Tell Donna no way she could look bad.

V nice Bruce:) Although I'm sure you coulda done that engraving, go on, try it next time;)

Outstanding! You done it again Bruce, now come on, go ahead and do the engraveing, I know you been practiceing:D

Tell Donna she looks great!

nice looking job Bruce
hey what's backing up the Abalone on the inside?
oh and is this one of the ones going to the England guy?
keep up the good work say hey to Donna stay warm.. :)

Thanks for all the kind words everybody:D

Dan,No this not for the English Gentlman, his will all be old Sheffield Bowies that he already has in his collection of the originals..

The abalone is actually glued up under the cutouts then the handle was back filled with epoxy,Were's it going to go now;) I think in the future I will add two small wood blocks on the inside before the epoxy, one so it will hold the abalone in place better and two so the handle doesn't take as much epoxy to fill it up (if you know what I mean)since the handle is hollow.I made the handle in the same way I make a metal sheath if you are curious, the piercings with the jewelers saw were done before the two halves were silver brazed together.
Simple actually.
Bruce

thanks Bruce
I was thinking that would be the way I would have done it at
least the first time it could have been very messy if the front wasn't sealed well.
.U know thinking about it ... car body bondo
would make for a cheaper fill and I don't think it would shrink much ether,,,
it won't run through small holes as easy leaving less possible mess.. :) just an idea :)

Man I am just itching to do the etching on this myself.I know the original Price Daggers had pretty basic patterns on them.I wish I could see the cover knife better to see what the pattern is supposed to look like on this knife..Maybe I will get gutsy this weekend and try it.Maybe I won't ruin the knife:eek: with a bad engraving job.
Bruce
