I've had more paper cuts than cuts from knives, but the knives are QUICKLY gaining!

Hello-
I am somewhat new to spydercos. Mainly the Gunting - Could you maybe describe the opening method a bit for me? I would really appreciate it.

Buy the way this is my first time posting on the spyderco forum. I have had 2 spyderco Calypsos, a Police and have a modified Delica II that I have (part of the time or as a second/back up)

Thanks (I have been reading this forum for a while and would just like to thank all of you for the info. that I have gotten from it so far)

I'll do my best to field this one. If I leave out anything important I'm sure someone will chime in.

Here we go.....when events dictate you need to actually open the Gunting there are at least four options. In no particular order:

1) Use the hole in the blade and with the pad of the thumb just swing it open as you would any other Spyderco knife.

2) Perhaps your wearing gloves or its very cold and the feeling in your thumb is diminished. Instead of trying to place the pad into the hole hook the inside of your thumb behind ramp and swing it open.

3) With your left hand open and palm up (VERY IMPORTANT) take the Gunting in your right hand, hook the ramp onto the edge of the palm near the base of the pinky and rotate your left hand clockwise while doing the opposite with your right hand.

4) Lastly you can hook the ramp on the anatomy of your opponent. If the contact point has a small radius (like a forearm)the result is an open knife. If however the radius is large like a thigh or larger, in addition to opening the Gunting the natural follow through will result in a blade tip puncture and probably a nasty cut to boot.

I've done my best to describe these movements but they are really easy to do and quite instintive. My best advise is to get your hands on one but I will warn you its easier to pick it up than to put it down.

4CYCLE, in reference to (4) in your post, how are you going to get a "...nasty cut to boot..." if you are opening it on his thigh? Is he wearing Thigh-Hight Boots? :-)
Sorry, too good to miss!

I can always count on you guys to find just the wrong meaning for my words but this time I failed to give the complete scene.

It should have started with.....'you unexpectedly find yourself being attacked by a drag queen....LAMO

Back to you..

Well, I was going to get a Chinook, but that description of the multiple openings for a Gunting is too cool! Maybe I'll have to get both...

Burke,

I can't help you with the Chinook at the moment but I do have one more Gunting in stock as of this post. I have promises of delivery from 3 different distributors but until Spyderco does their thing no product will flow.

If youe serious about getting a Gunting and would like a young serial# that was hand ground I suggest you contact me ASAP.
