Hi guys,

i just finished heat treating my first 3 D2 knives and am wondering about the colors. it looks absolutely beautiful but i am unsure if these knives are ok.

details: wrapped in foil with a little paper, ramped up to 650 celcius, hold it there for about an hour, ramped up to 1030 celcius and held for about 10 minutes before quenching between steel plates.

Perfectly fine..I find that D2 at least the D2 I have used does the same thing and has performed as expected .

They look fine to me, are they straight?

me again, after tempering the knives for 2 hours @ 530 C - 980 F.

thanks a lot for taking the effort of replying to me.

Oddly, one of the knives remains colored. i suspect the one that was not colored in the first place.

any thoughts? and yes, they are straight. one had a slight bend which i managed to manipulate in a vice.

Those oxide colors are normal, but the one on the bottom looks like it make have picked up a little decarb on the spine near the tip. That can indicate a pinhole in the foil or an imperfect seam.
