Hi there everyone.
Well it seems as though recently - well maybe not so recently, Traditional forums is filled with such fantastic, kind and very thoughtful members, as there is ALWAYS give-a-away thread active, or if not-a member telling us his or hers fantastic fortune of becoming the recipient of a wonderful knife by ways of one of our great people that we have here..right here in our place, Traditionals!
I very recently put up a thread to show the fantastic actions of Brad, and I just do not forget such things, as this means more to me than "just" a knife-as if the knife was not wonderful enough, but its also the thought process, the trouble of overseas shipping, AND the expense no to be forgotten-its an awful lot to consider.

Well YET AGAIN, I have the incredible fortune to have received not one, but TWO incredible gifts in these last few days, please read on as I do promise you it is worth it.. as there are TWO awesome gifts I would like to show you...

A few weeks ago, I bought a couple of lovely knives from Boggs ( Jim ), well as I was sitting in the smoko room unwrapping the global box, my workmates gathered around as they do when they see me with a box ( they know its knives :o ) well there was an extra tube...IO also found a note... of course from Jim explaining in one sentence how he would like to gift me a knife for my Wedding...I couldnt quite believe my eyes as I rolled the tube around in my hands - trying to take hold of what was happening-I then became aware of everyone's demands to hurry up and open the Tube!!...it was almost a frenzy lol
Well I opened up the tall GEC tube, and out slid a brown wax-paper wrapped knife, and it was this beautiful, just stunning Lockback-my first Lockback from GEC, let alone a darned Stunner in Burnt Stag!!
Jim, the knife simply moulded into my hand, the way they have curved the Stag, the whole feel of the knife-it seems as though it was made for only me...Thank you VERY much Jim for :
1, being such a kind thinking friend
2, going to all that trouble and expense
3 Being an all round Top Bloke - Thank you.
Here is Jim's wonderful gift to me...

Isnt it just a stunning knife!

GIFT TWO.
Today, I received a box that I had been a wee bit sneakily warned that it was on its way...although I didnt have a idea at all what was going on - duh me..
Before I show you, I am assuming that we all have viewed Charlies Thread about his adventure with GEC in , with them, to re-introduce back to the modern world, pretty much the most perfect Barlow knife that one could possibly produce?

You must be impressed with the work in the planning alone, and then - the massive amount of time involved with travel, e-mailing, phone calls etc.
Then would come the tremendous personal expense - all from Charlie, and why?..because he only wants REAL knives to be appreciated again...I just wonder how many of us have really thought just how lucky we are to have someone here like this? - honestly when you think about this ...... is quite amazing.

Charlie's Package, it contained three tubes, three GEC Sawyer Barlow single bladed knives, one in Tan, Ebony and Amber yellow .... again, my work crowd were nearly as astounded as me with amazement that was taking over me...

I got home and went straight for the phone knowing I was running out of time to ring Charlie, the first time I got Joanne, and the line was terrible, I tried again very quickly and got Charlie..

Keeping a wonderful conversation as short as much as I can, Charlie asked that I did this with the three knives......

1, Accept one for me as a gift from Him - I have accepted it extremely gratefully - Ebony.

2, Gift one to Sue, Sue is extremely flattered and she will choose tomorrow ( she has gone to bed a wee bit tired early today )

3, Gift one to Fes, our other New Zealander that Charlie has had contact and dealings with.

Charlie told me he simply wanted the New Zealander knife-Brothers to share something that we here starve of that you lucky American/ Canadian folks have in your very own Country - a TRUE QUALITY HIGH-END KNIFE MANUFACTURER - and that is if we could accept a knife from a world class manufacturer ... wow :o

Charlie - I rang FES straight after my conversation with you - and his delight I wish I could have taped and played here, he is simply blown away by such thoughtfulness by a man that we owe so much to anyway.

Charlie, from three VERY VERY Happy New Zealanders, we are humbled, and left feeling very thankful and lucky.

To Jim and Charlie my friends, I am at this moment in seventh Heaven, thank you for the ticket to such a wonderful place..

This thread put a big beaming smile on my face! :) The photographs are beautiful Duncan, as always, the knives are simply stunning, but of course that is just a small part of it. Such incredible generosity and thoughtfulness, and in this case across the world. Charlie and Jim, I struggle to find the adjectives to describe you and your actions, but you are great, and you make us all a little bit greater, because of your kindness and generosity. Duncan, I know how much this must mean to you my friend, to be held in such high regard, and with such esteem, by your brothers (and sisters) of this forum. Fes too. I know you will treasure these gifts forever, and that the kindness offered to you will never be forgotten. Charlie and Jim, well done again, I wish we could all carry you round on our shoulders, tossing our hats in the air! You guys (and gals) here are the best :) :) :)

I am impressed! These are fantastic gestures from great guys and valued members. You totally deserve it Duncan.
Mike

Duncan,

I couldn't be happier for you. Boggs has shown himself time and again to be a generous man-- or rather, others' gratitude has revealed Boggs's generosity; his actions are brought to light in the warmth of his recipients' thankfulness. Well done, Jim. It's an honor to be "here" with you.

As for the barlows.... I hope you can imagine my delight on your behalf. When I read of these NZ barlows, I doubt my reaction rivaled FES's, but it may have been right up there. I've enjoyed your enthusiastic participation in Charlie's thread and your appreciation of both all the work that's gone into the knives and the final result. When I heard that the first run was all spoken for, one of my first thoughts was, "But then, how do we get one to Duncan?"

The "royal" 'we,' of course, as the single "I" had nothing to do with it, but it was much on my mind and on my list of "next things with which to bother Charlie": How, then, to get one of these barlows to Duncan?

I should have known Charlie was far ahead in both thinking and action; a good man, he. Oh, does it do my heart good to know you and FES (and Sue!) will have these knives.

Charlie-- you just made a lot of people's days, including mine! Again, it's an honor to be in your company.

Enjoy your knives in good health, Duncan!

Very wonderful gesture on Jim's and Charlie's ends. You're a lucky man Duncan, not for the knives but rather for the friends you have made.

I have said it before but Duncan, You The Man! Good on you Jim and Charlie, a couple of the real gems around the forum. All three of you guys ROCK! I got that from one of my kids but it seems to fit you three to a tee.

Duncan................

Home Run...............Yahoooooooooooooo...............................

This forum is filled with generous people, especially the traditional forum, it's always been one of my favorite hangouts, Jim and Charlie are great people Duncan, representative of alot of the people you'll find here at BFC.

Im rarely lost for words. Charlie, from the bottom of the world i thank you for your beautiful gift.It will be passed to my son when i cross the river.. FES

Thanks could be expressed by sharing and giving to others in the future when the opportunity presents itself... a great way to propogate kindness :)

Wow.... I still havent come down, Jim-your Lockback has company today - this being a Ebony Barlow, that beautiful Lockback has worked hard these last two days, so I am sitting here stropping it up -
Every one is so correct here about the friends we make, and it was amazing timing, as my beloved GEC 2010 Forum E/O at this VERY moment is travelling overseas to our good friend, it was a strange thing- this great gentleman said he hadn't a GEC as of yet, and I just knew he had to have that lovely knife - it is one of my all time top 5 knives, I hope he feels the same about that fantastic knife, next thing I get WALLOPED with these gifts....

Duncan,
thank you for this thread. Lately, I've often wondered the same thing: "how do you thank or express with enough thanks traditional forums kindness?"
My short answer is that you really can't. At least, I can't. I'd love to be able to give back as much as I've received, but I don't think that will be possible. Not in a near future. And I'm not just talking about knives (nor were you); it's kindness, knowledge, friendship, and above that, the great feeling of being part of something.
So I guess the only thing to do is to say thanks to Jim and Charlie. And to Kevin, Will, Andi, Jack, Elliott, Vic, Fes, Sarah, and so on.
And aside from thanking each person directly (just like you did, on this threadm or privately), possibly the best thing to do is to go on being a part of this, and contributing every time we get the chance. Just like you do. So thank you Duncan :)

You know what they say?

"No greater love hath a man, than to lay down his knife for his friend."

(Runs and hides behind sofa!) :)

Great gesture on your part, Charlie!
