In case I disappear for awhile, don`t worry. They are predicting up to 24" of snow and winds up to 50 mph, starting this afternoon. They say we could get drifting up to 5`. It`s a possibly we might lose power. We were at Target yesterday afternoon to pick up Connie`s prescription, the freezers and food shelves were almost empty, it`s amazing how people panic! Some people were dragging 2 carts full of food around. Why do they wait, we always have food and supplies on hand.

Yes, it is supposed to be downright nasty! I also heard that there could be 25' waves on Lake Michigan and, after the snow stops, it will drop to single digit temps. I went out yesterday and cut some extra wood up......just in case!

I'm with you John, I'm just a little to your west and we are expecting a big one. The only thing I would ever need to go get in case is extra milk for the kiddos, other than that I have more than enough food to last me weeks on end. I always wonder what will happen if a major catastrophe were to hit my city unexpectedly, such as an earth quake, because there are a lot of unprepared people. Stay safe and warm John and enjoy:D

Good luck to everyone out there in the mid-west, it appears like you guys are in for a wallopping. We are just going to scoot this one out here on the Island, but just north of us in Boston and upstate NY they are expecting the same as you guys. Most peeps on BF are probably stocked and ready for adverse conditions, but if you want a good laugh you need to see the prima-donnas we got around these parts.
4-6 inches and they are packing the stores like the worlds gonna end.

BTW - Lets see some pics of the country under a blanket of snow

John,

Stay safe my friend.

When snowflakes begin to fall, I'm always amused to watch those people who act as if the trumpets just sounded, and they make a mad dash for milk, water, and bread....:D

My biggest worry is if we get 24" I`m going to have to give my wife a piggyback ride! She`s only 4` 11" and I`m 6` 2".

Hi Stomper - -

Lol - pictures of the piggy-back ride!!

I know what you mean about people panicking - I stood in line for 30 minutes last night at the grocery.

I stay stocked up, but I had planned on the shopping on Monday night long before they were predicting a blizzard here.

We are also supposed to get 15-20" of snow, with blowing and drifting. They are also now calling for "thunder-snow" - which I have seen one time before.

I'll be up tonight and trying to take a few pictures.

Stay safe - stay warm.

best regards -

I heard it called "Snowpocolypse" :)

Until the job outlook improves in Az, I'm stuck in NY and have seen more crappy weather in the last year than I've seen in the last 27. Get me outta here!

I am in the area but it is way too nasty to even try to stop in and say hi. It took me 4 hours to get from Kenosha WI to Bolingbrook this afternoon. I'm exhausted.
Be safe if you venture outside. I have to be in Princeton in the morning.

BTW, hot chocolate and Bailey's, makes for a good evening.

Still got power and still snowing! Pics later if I don`t keel over shoveling snow. I`m in Will County, which has been declared a state of emergency, which means no roads have been cleared. I can remember the blizzard of 1967, I was in 8th grade then. My Dad was stranded for 3 days about 7 miles from home.

Good to see you still have power. I'm still in Bolingbrook and it doesn't look good for driving this morning. I need to go to Princeton and last I looked the roads were "blocked" between Morris and Princeton.
Take care, stay safe please.

Good luck riding out the storm John. Hope to see some pics. I guess I shouldn't mention that it is in the Mid 70's here :)

My family is similarly stranded in Tazewell County, and they did, indeed, have "thundersnow".

I think I'll go back to complaining that it's between 20 and 30 degrees here right now

Glad to see you still have power.

The blizzard to end all blizzards rolled through here last night. We were warned that 10" to 18" could hit us. i woke up to maybe 5". Reports of 8" to 10" in the northern and western 'burbs.

As usual, most of the bad stuff and any lake effect it picks up burns off before it reaches us. I ain't complaining. If I never had to shovel that stuff again I'd be a happy camper. :p

Old man shoveling. 18" on the ground, not counting drifts.
