FWIW, I soak all of my bone/horn/antler-handled knives in an overnight mineral oil bath 1/year. It keeps them from drying out & cracking.

I finally picked up a bottle of Mineral oil. It's like 20w motor oil. Although it is odorless and tasteless I don't think I could drink the recomended 1-3 tablespoons for the intestinal lubricating effect. It says don't take with meals only at bed time-which makes me wonder why?--I don't think I want to know.
