Worked out a trade and sent off my Manix for a black Military.Sent it USPS priority with delivery confirmation but I did not insure it. :( Well I got the Military on monday but the other guy contacted me Tuesday and said he had not recieved the Manix even though the USPS said it had been delivered on 4-25-05.I called his local post office to try and track it down, someone said they would look into it but I haven't heard back from them yet.I will send the Military back to him in a couple days if the package I sent is not found.
All ways be sure to insure packages even if it is only for 50.00 so whoever they are going to will have to sign for them.I am not sure if it was stolen out of his box or if it was delivered to the wrong address but I have learned an expensive lesson.

"even though the USPS said it had been delivered on 4-25-05"

Delivered where?

Damn, sorry Jeff, that sucks.

All they show is the address that it was to be delivered too but they can't say for sure that it was delivered to that address. All they know for sure is that the mail man scaned it and left it somewhere.
I had this happen on my end a while back.A sebenza that was insured and had delivery confirmation was left at a factory 60 miles for my house.I drove to the place and picked it up.

Take all of the information you have and go to the post office and ask to speak to the postmaster. It may take a while, but hopefully it will sort out.

I'm not certain, but I think there is a signature required if the package is insured for $100 and up. All DC tells you is the package was scanned at the post office. What happens after that is anyone's guess. Same thing happened to me, but I was the buyer and lost out on even more. To make matters worse, I told the seller to send the light by UPS and he sent it USPS Priority without insurance instead. Not only that, he would not initiate a postal trace which has to be started at the sender's end. I'd say u812 is an outstanding seller the way he is trying to correct the problem.

That sucks Jeff ... Please let us know how it turns out.

Luckily, I've only had it happen once. I also think you're right about the signature requirement for the $50-100 insurance option ($2.20). The cheaper way (not worth it in my opinion) is to pay the $1.30 for delivery confirmation.

Good news,Called the post office again this morning, just got a call back saying that the mailman has the package and it would be delivered today. They said that they had no idea why it was scaned but not delivered.
Big load off my mind.

I would like to thank Jeff for his concern and efforts on my behalf, I am the other party involved in this situation. I had looked into it and the post office claimed they could not do anything and they had even talked ot the carrier while I was there. So it is comforting to have a good result wth this.

It is even better dealing with some one like Jeff, because a situation like this is a tough one to figure out, when both people perform exactly like they said they would, but there is still a mess up.

Thank you again for helping to resolve this mess, and I would not hesitate to deal with you again.

No problem at all.I just wanted to post about this so everyone would have a heads up that delivery confirmation is not the end all and be all of the USPS.In order to find out for sure what address it was left at the package must be insured and signed for.Just like with that Sebenza,if it had not had insureance on it they would not have been able to tell me where it had been delivered.
I would like to thank mschwoeb for his understanding in all this.

I was sent a package "Delivery Confirmation" and "Insured - Signature Required." It was left leaning against the post that holds my rural mailbox -- in the rain. I found it first. (Complain? Now I am supposedly never home [even when I am] and am forced to get all such packages at the PO - a 20 mi. round-trip away.)

Another "delivery service," DHL, did the same with a "Addressee Sigature Required" package. I found the box when the snow melted some in January. At least it was in a plastic bag and had somehow stayed dry.

It is NOT easy to get insurance $$ from USPS.

I wanted to mention about USPS online labeling. You can print labels with or without postage paid. DC is free when printing the label online (prepaid or not) and other services, like signature confirmation, are discounted. You can now add insurance with prepaid online labeling, up to $200 value. You should verify this, but I think there is no need to pay extra for signature confirmation, if you have the package insured for $100 or more, because they will require a signature automatically. Also, you can request courier pickup with the prepaid labels or save time by not waiting in line when dropping the package off at the post office.

You should check your local PO but,

During a similiar situation, I was shown, and it was posted in fine print, that the insurance they offer (usps)

DOES NOT COVER LOSS

Like I said, check for your self.
