Just lost a $300 knife with USPS...

I ordered a TSF Beast a week ago directly from Jim. He was a cool guy. We exchanged some e-mails and I got the knife the way I liked it. He sent it out to me earlier this week and it was supposed to arrive today.

Well, I came back from work and nothing.

Checked the tracking on the site and it showed up "Delivered" at 9:44 am. This was at 4PM... Felt like I was hit on the chest with a very heavy boat anchor.

I immediately called USPS and they confirmed that the package was indeed delivered. I live in a condo, leaving a package at my door unattended is a terrrrrrible idea. There are 20+ other families living here and any one of them could have walked by and picked up the package.

You have no idea of sad/frustrated/distressed a feel right now. This is worse than losing a knife because at least you had the pleasure of handling, using, and carrying that knife before you lost it. This is losing something before even getting the chance to open up the package and feeling it in your hands for the first time.

If there's any advice anyone can give in how I should handle this matter, please let me know. I already opened a claim with USPS, but I'm 99% sure they won't do shit about it in the long run.

EDIT: UPDATE

Hey guys, great news!

I just checked the mailbox and guess what was waiting for me?

You guys were right, the mailman prematurely checked off package as delivered when it really wasn't. This pretty much ruined my weekend, but now that I have it, I couldn't be happier.

Let me just take this moment to say how AWESOME the creator of this knife is. James Allen, the man behind Three Sisters Forge and I kept in touch with each other through out the entire weekend. If you see my mailbox, you'd see over 20 e-mails sent between us. I let him know what had happened and he said that he had my back. Even though it was labeled plain as day that the mail had been delivered to me in the tracking site and he did not know me prior to placing an order. He trusted me and offered to send me another knife. We shot the breeze all through the weekend and I learned a lot about his life and family. He is very quick on the email replies and a very awesome guy. By far the most helpful individual I've ever met online, let alone knife maker.

I suggest you guys check him not, if not for his awesome beefy knives, than for his character.

Terrible news, hope you can get it sorted out, and that you get your knife.

You might want to edit your post.

I'm sorry for your misfortune, but a knife that expensive should have been insured!

I don't know if Jim insured it or not, but even if he did. I severely doubt the insurance will cover it. I'll send him an email and ask.

Mind your language folks, remember where you are.... ;)

Bummer, hope it turns up or gets resolved.

Ask Jim if he insured it. He should have. I would knock on every door in the condo and ask if anyone seen it be delivered or seen it at your door. Contact the p.o.a or land lord which ever you have. Maybe you will gilt someone into returning it. Report it stolen.

If it was insured for more than $200 you'll have to sign for it 99% of the time. If I was a betting man I'd guess the package will be delivered Monday and the delivery guy scanned the package "delivered" prematurely.

God. Please. This.

Even so, I'm going to have a terrible weekend. I'm not a rich man, $300 is a lot of money to me.

someone at the post office where i usually pick up packages has 2 of my custom knives, both packages were cleanly sliced open.

$300 is a lot of money to anyone, bro. I feel your pain.

What has happened in the past to some other guys, not me, I've had nothing but great, fast service from USPS, is that sometimes packages will show up "Delivered" and will arrive the next working day. It happened to quite a few folks I know here and on other forums.

If not, I would be asking around, and checking to see if there is any surveillance cameras in the area.

Good luck, brother.

The difference here is that your items was lost while in transit. They never made it to you. Where as mine had already been delivered to me before it was stolen. Kind of lame that they can just leave a package outside someone's door and label it as delivered... The area outside my door is not my property and therefore it should not count as being delivered.

A buyer's duty is to get the money to the seller. A seller's duty is to get the goods to the buyer. A buyer couldn't say "well I sent the money, it's not my problem if you havn't received it." In that same regard, a seller must ensure that the item is delivered to the buyer--NOT the buyer's unattended apartment door. If the knife doesn't turn up, unless you specifically requested no confirmation upon delivery, you're not out the money, the seller is. Though I do hope your knife turns up; avoiding a headache is always preferable.

What I would do is ask everybody at the condo. or offer a $20 reward, they probably think that 20 bucks is better then a knife.

I'm going to ask some people that live around my apartment. Unfortunately my immediate next door neighbor and I aren't exactly the best of buds. I can't really do much until Mon/Tues though, when USPS will review my claim.

I always have to sign for my knives that are insured delivery. Are you sure you didn't get one of those pink cards that says they attempted delivery and you can pick up the knife at the PO on Monday?

This is what has happened to me more than a few times
