Finally got my first batch of steel that I ordered to start working on my first knives. I get out to the garage to do some cutting. And since its pretty dang cold here in Michigan, I always turn on the belt sander as the little guy needs a bit to warm up before it gets to full running speed. (Btw, I've been doing this for 2 weeks straight every day practicing on scrap steel without a problem). Anyways, turned it on, cut out a chunk of 1084, drew out my design, and then look over to see my 1x30 smoking like a chimney! Of course I turned it off and let it cool down. And I have a feeling that if I brought it in my basement or somewhere to warm up and use it down there it would still work for awhile but, there is a no questions asked replaceable warranty on it so, I may be bringing it back today. A 2 hour drive but well worth it to work on my first knives.
I honestly would like to just get a better one, a bit bigger, but I have about $50+ in brand new belts for it still so. I may as well replace it and keep using it. I'll eventually get a nice 2x72. But, anywho, thats my afternoon story for you....:crushed:

Not a disaster. Just an interruption. Stay with it.

For sure. I boxed the 1x30 up ready to bring it back but, got busy with other things. So I wont be able to bring it back til next weekend. In the meantime I said screw it and after it warmed up in the house, I set it up in the basement and its been working great. Profiled two blades and ready to grind them here in a minute.

I wonder what it doesn't like about the cold? Something get too tight when cold?

I have wondered how long my 1x30 will last. They're pretty impressive for the price. When mine goes out I'll probably get a 2x42.
