I have always though that it is best to make your blades so the new owner, and others who see the knife, will know who made it. "V6" doesn't tell them much. V.Smith will tell a lot more. Even if you keep the "V6" mark, either mark the other side with a name, or stamp the sheath with a name and location ( always a good idea). You can get a leather stamp made up easily.Used right, it will last forever. Blade stamps can have short lives if not used carefully.

A mark on the sheath ( or etched on the blade) of :

Vern Smith
Ottumwa, Iowa

......will tell them where they can get another knife.

My makers mark is:
Stacy E. Apelt
Norfolk, VA

I like it but until this thread I didnt know your name was Vern Smith. I think you could use the stamp but you need to mark your blades with your name also.

well my real name is Vern Six . Stacy was trying to change my name.

Sorry Vern. These forum names are too confusing for me. I have trouble remembering real names now I have to remember two for most everybody.
