Just nasty..

It would be kind of fun to unexpectedly shoot one of those when playing darts against an ultra-serious dart competitor. Am I right??? C'mon, you know I am.

"Yes ma'am, Let me help you cut that piece of string...*thwap* ummm, sorry about your severed arm ma'am..." :D

And on komodo dragons :D

Actually, a simple forked stick seems to be most effective for keeping Komodo Dragons away.
Weird, it'a a 300 pound lizard that can eat you in a single sitting...unless you grab a branch.:foot:

I think the shark and large predator thing was just an excuse to make such a weapon of doom.

The real question is how many column shifts do I get from having such a device?
And what sort of mage should I go to to have it enchanted? And for how many gold pieces is a good price?
Does it glow to warn me of the presence of Orks?
Important questions I say!:D

Danny Glover shoulda had one when he fought Predator!

The most important question is "What kind of steel is the blade made of?"

Because when you launch a blade at somebody, that blade better be made of an appropriate steel. ...like one of the newest "super" steels.

Second most important is "What is the blade grind?" I don't like launching scandies at people.

They have been around for YEARS and have been banned Federally and in all states for years also. ( maybe not NH)....The first ones were cheap, dangerous to everyone near them including the owner as they were very unsafe to carry and deploy. One of the NYPD officers who works for me was a former USSR officer and told me they were introduced for a short period of time and then never issued since they were too dangerous to the user, and failed as a useful knife for non weapon knife uses. Many attempted to use the knife for normal cutting chores and the blade would release and injure the user/bystanders......

I guess there might be a misunderstanding. The former USSR officer might have been talking about shooting knife - the one that used a small gun cartrige with regular 9 mm bullet. That knife indeed existed and the soviets did entertain the idea that such kind of weapon could be of some use.
I do not think soviets have anything to do with this crap.

Actually the "Soviet Ballistic Knife" was manufactured by a Russian company called Ostblock or something similar to that. The knife was part of a demonstration of Warsaw Pact weapons I recieved while serving in the military in the 1980's.

So you shoot the blade, either miss or give someone a bruise, then you're left with a handle? Sounds like the most BA weapon ever conceived.

I remember when i was in kindergarten or maybe first grade a kid i knew said his brother had a knife that had a blade that launched out of it. I didn't believe him at the time, but I find myself wondering now...

That's one heck of a spring behind that thing, it's the sort of thing i would expect to see in a spring piston air rifle.

Look at it this way, it's likely to be more quiet than any gunshot. Close quarters, the energy should be enough to thrust into someone. Once fired, it's not likely to be used against you. I doubt it's meant for any farther than ten feet and I am willing to bet that for most people, getting ten feet away from someone is easier than getting right up to them. Then again there are other problems such as a miss or a poor hit, which if you aren't further armed you will get close anyway and make the shot count. It'd be a hard thing to avoid. Of course you may be lucky and roll a 20.
