On the "Absolute Cheapskate Way to Start Making Knives-PDF" in the sticky above, could you easily just use a Dremel with a metal cutting attachment to cut out the blank after you drill the holes?

I tried it with the little cut off discs after I had drilled the holes. Might as well have chewed on it.

You see some guys using an angle grinner with a cutoff wheel to do the heavy lifting.

One more question: If or When I use a hacksaw, I should use a bi-metal blade, right? And also how many teeth per-inch should I use?

The general rule of thumb is that you have a minimum off three teeth in the material your cutting. So a piece of 1/8" stock would require a 24 TPI blade or higher.

If you don't cut truly vertically which most folks will not be doing, the tooth count can be on the lower TPI count.

For now I use a QUALITY cut off wheel on an angle grinder and it gets me close enough to shape the rest of the profile on the belt grinder. A hacksaw will work but will take forever!
