Hi first post on this forum. After going back and forth on whether to buy a CQC15, Mini CQC15 & or a Roadhouse a deal finally came up on the Mini that I thought was too good to pass up and I did it. My only concern has been the size (whether or not I should go with a full size 15 or the Mini) and I think hopefully for EDC the mini was a good choice.

Anyway I enjoy reading the posts on the forum and I am stoked to get my knew knife. Its my second Emerson and first knife since Christmas ... far, far too long.

Mini is much more edc friendly vs. the full size. I have a mini cqc 15 and love it!

Nice! Black or satin? And what was your first one?

Thanks, I'm excited. I have a cqc7b (without the wave feature) in stone wash and it has been well used. Kind of f-d the grind a bit sharpening it, sadly, as it was first chisel grind but I think I have the hang of it now.

I ordered this one in in Satin as well with no serrations.

I haven't had a chance to compare the full-size 15 to the mini in person but it looked a little large on paper. I have a couple of Military's that I do carry, but most of the time an 8" knife seems to be what ends up in my pocket.

Good choice man. I think the 15 is just an excellent all around knife. If I had to issue a folder to a military unity the full size 15 would be it. Although personally I carry my super 7 and commander more often.

If you wanted some picture comparisons you had but to ask my friend! I'd of posted up some side by side with a military or a cqc-7 if you wanted.

If you could post some pictures I would really appreciate it. I held a Mini CQC15 once for a short time but didn't really get total feel for it and I am just a little concerned it might be too small, so the photos would be a great help.

Emerson's minis are the size I like to carry daily. My mini-15 is roughly the same length and thickness as my Volli, if that helps. The mini-15 will be maybe 1/2" shorter than my Para2s and slightly thicker and heavier, or it will be about the same length as a ZT 566 and a little thicker. Don't know if you're familiar with the other knives I listed but that's how they compare to the mini-15.

The mini-15 has never seemed too small to me for anything I'd do with a folder. It's the one I go to when I want a knife that'll do anything I'm capable of doing with a knife and still ask for more.

Thanks sounds like it will be good. One way or another I will know in a couple of days, I am excited to get it. Knives I like to carry most are all in the size range, Manix 2, Large Sebenza, Para2, ZT 550 and, as mentioned my only Emerson to date, the CQC7. I had mentioned before that I handled a mini briefly and I think what is in my head is that the thumb ramp felt a little odd. I don't have that issue on my CQC7 but that is probably because it is the non-wave version, I think that is what got me wondering about the full size. Anyway, could have been in my head, one thing I do remember is how great the handle felt and how incredible the blade looked.

Good post Dale. That is the type of post IMO that helps other decide, I know it helps me a lot when someone compares it with something I have "Physically Seen" or own.

I know veteran knife owners know this already but you have to be Very Careful when deciding on a knife when you are relying only on pics. Emerson's knives IMO are one of the easiest to get fooled on. My motto is "ignore pics and stick to numbers".

Very interested to hear what you think about your mini. Hope you love it.:-)

I agree, especially with Emersons and Striders. If you've never held one before the pics won't help much because both of those brands rely heavily on ergonomics that don't come through well with pictures. I was fooled by Strider pics until I held an SnG for the first time. Didn't feel anything like I thought it would from the pics I'd seen. Emerson's been the same way for me. When I picked up a mini-15 and an SnG for the first time, they melted into my hand like they were made just for me. I had no idea they'd feel that good.

OTOH, I've had models from both of those makers that just felt "wrong" when I held them. Nothing worked for me with those knives. Unless you have some experience with them, on these two brands particularly I'd say "try before you buy", or at least compare them to a knife you're familiar with, to get a model that's the best fit for you.

Thanks guys, I think I mentioned earlier I have handled the mini CQC15 but I haven't handled the full size. I was very impressed with the size of the knife. I liked the way it fit my hand and was very impressed with the blade shape and style. My only concern was that the thumb ramp felt a little odd tome and that is why I was wondering about the size. It is really close to my CQC7 in size but I think why it felt a little strange to me is because my 7 is non waved so I don't have the big up sweep on the thumb ramp. Anyway, I will have it in-hand by the end of the week and it is a knife I have wanted to own since it came out so I am really excited to get it.

I totally agree on those two brands in particular.

There are no decent knife shops in my area, so I have purchased most of my knives without actually handling them first. When I bought a Strider SnG from ebay I absolutely hated the thing and sold it a few weeks later.

Emersons on the other hand ALWAYS seem to feel good to me no matter what model they are.

SnG? Really? See - that is again Proof In The Pudding that just because everyone says how great a specific knife is - -*isn't the truth for everyone.

I often hear the SmF is way too big and bulky to edc and that the SnG is the sh*t when it comes to EDC blades. Heh. ;-l

One's hand will tell them.
I love my SnG and my Black Bear Knives Metro Razor. These folders just lock into my hand... just like an Emerson.
Ernest said that's why he went with a Glock pistol. He just loved how it felt in his hand.

It arrived. Very impressed, perfect size for EDC, I could see where the extra room on the CQC15 would be nice to have but I think the trade off of the more compact package is worth it to me. Very impressed with absolutely everything, love the standoffs, F&F is great, razor sharp, blade is centered, opens smoothly not one complaint. Love the blade shape! Exceeded my expectations.

Actually, I still have a cc black G10/tiger stripe SnG. Sold the GG that I did not like at all.

Even though I still have that one Strider, I really don't see how people are so in love with them. I think they are WAY overpriced and missing the Emerson's best feature (the wave opener)
