Just ordered a surefire L4 did I make a good choice?

Surefire batteries aren't better, they're just cheaper. Same with battery station ones. SF made a CR2 light too, the titan. $400

Surefire basically pioneered the use of high-powered lithium camera batteries in flashlights. You could probably also argue that it's a marketing ploy too, since they manufacture CR123A batteries as well.

I really think it's only fair to give SF credit for pioneering the use of CR123 batteries with performance in mind, first and foremost. Talk of ulterior motives with regards to battery sales seems a bit tough to justify if only because SF manufactured their lights this way for so many years prior to getting into the battery business. Certainly SF eventually saw an opportunity to expand their market share by making less expensive batteries, but this was only after many years of frustration trying to work with the established battery manufacturers to bring the prices down for their customers. How many of you remember SF's Hurricane Lamp? :D

If you prefer conventional batteries, I am VERY happy with my Fenix L0D (AAA) and L2D (2AA)- great brightness and runtimes, easy to carry and use and rechargeable compatible. I can't really think of what else I would want in a pair of lights. The L0D is in my pocket and the L2D is in my Fatboy (which is usually in the car). Got both for under $100 from Lighthound- fast & free shipping too.

i still have a hurricane lamp lol, wasnt the deal ya buy the lamp/get the batts free, or buy the batts get the lamp free, something like that.

I love the L4, and luckily I didn't have tail cap problems, but it seems an overwhelming number of new surefires immediately need a new tailcap.

My experience with surefire batteries is not that good.

It was most assuredly marketed as a "light" that just happened to require (and conveniently include ;) ) a whole mess of Duracell CR123s. Definitely a high point in corporate ingenuity. :D

Ditto on the tailcap issue--I have a 3 day old E1L where the clicky gave out yesterday----its going back to Scheel's today----things like this shouldn't be happening with a $100 flashlight.

And we'll be going through every stinking light in inventory till I get a good one--let them deal with sending the bad ones back to Surefire---to say I'm a little pissed right now would be an understatement.
