from knifecenter in stag but when I went back to see if it came with a sheath, I found out the blade has an "A" stamped on it and it is made of A2 tool steel, not D2 as i thought they all were?? I called up and did talk to I guess the owner, and he said they were recently made, and he had them made up in A2 because its much less expensive? Thats what I was told . I kinda wanted the D2 because it seems a bit harder and more stain resistant. I only have 1 knife recently purchased in A2. How does it compare directly to a blade in D2 for this small, do all edc fixed blade?

From what I've read A2 is usually heat treated pretty hard, Rockwell above at least 60 w/o performance problems. I am not sure about D2 but some makers run it at 58 (Ontario) and per AGRussell, Dozier runs his at 60-61.

D2 is a semistainless and A2 is not stainless at all.

I have one knive in each steel. The A2 will rust a lot easier than D2. My D2 blade is at about 58 rockwell per the maker, the A2 is a custom, and its a pretty hard blade and rarely needs sharpening.
