I think you'll dig it! The slightly thicker -- maybe 1/16" or 3/32" total -- handle is nice, and the texture on the desert tan G10 is great; less pants-shredding, wider weave, kind of like a waffle (in a good way!).
Mine had a scale swap, and I added a Pete Gray zirc monster disk for even easier opening. It's been my daily carry since I got it.

Sweet
So wait....The cqc7v has thicker scales than the other 7's? They are designed to be thicker than other cqc7 scales?
Emersons with the colored (tan, jungle, grey, etc.) g10 handles tend to be a little thicker than the current grippy black g10 models. However, Emersons with the smoother g10 handles from 2011 and older will have slightly thinner handles than today's models. But of course the HD/iron dragon models are the slimmest in the pocket by far.To be honest though my only complaint about most the cqc7s is that they are too thick. The only reason they are ever kicked out of my pocket is because of this thickness
Out of all the different CQC-7 versions, the HD7 is the most comfortable for me. Definitely try to get one if you see one for a reasonable price.I still feel like a friggin' tool for missing out on this knife. I would trade like half my standing collection for it.

I just got myself a V a couple weeks ago too. I also did a scale swap with my 7AW BT just cuz the black A blade looks better with the Tan scales.
The V tanto seems like a good blend of the A and B. Mine was pretty gritty when I got it so I took it apart and set my own lockbar and detent tensions + polished everything (pivot, blade pivot hole, scales/blade where washers contact, and a little oil on the detents to let them wear in new grooves). It's got to be the smoothest one I've got now.
The tan G10 scales are a bit thicker and I noticed the pocket clip screws were coming up a bit short when threaded in and one was starting to strip. I had some longer ones in my CQC15 for some reason that were sticking out on the inside so I swapped them around and all are perfect depth now.

Can you explain what this type of mod is? I'm eyeing the 7v and would probably mod it if I got it --- the look of stock Emersons doesn't float my boat.just ordered from Emerson a cqc7v and will probably send off for full v edge grip mod.

My guess is "grip" is a typo and it's meant to be "grind." It makes sense to me as "full v edge grind mod," and that's a pretty common Emerson modification.
A black 7v .... hmm looks cool, how about a bolstered 7v
