just ordered my first full size cqc7! I’ve had an a100 and mini 7’s but just ordered from Emerson a cqc7v and will probably send off for full v edge grip mod. What do y’all think? Will i dig it?

I think you'll dig it! The slightly thicker -- maybe 1/16" or 3/32" total -- handle is nice, and the texture on the desert tan G10 is great; less pants-shredding, wider weave, kind of like a waffle (in a good way!).

Mine had a scale swap, and I added a Pete Gray zirc monster disk for even easier opening. It's been my daily carry since I got it.

So wait....The cqc7v has thicker scales than the other 7's? They are designed to be thicker than other cqc7 scales? I lost my 7b but when I compared my two 7v's (backspacer models) to my cqc7f (standoffs) I noticed that my 7v's had thicker g10 scales. I thought maybe the newer Emersons were just coming with thinner g10 now.

Also every cqc7f flipper I tested at the store had a tiny bit of up and down play seems to be secure though. For some reason my 7v's came with a little lock stick but that caused them to wear into absolutely perfect lockup.

I've only handled the one, but yes, I believe the desert tan 7V is produced with thicker scales.

The weave/pattern on the G10 is totally different than all of the black-scaled Emersons I've handled (2013 onwards) -- much coarser, less sandpapery, feels different in hand. I like the bit of extra thickness.

The two cqc7v's I have each have completely different texture patterns on the g10. I don't know if you can tell from the picture but the older one on the left has more little round dimple texture. The one in the middle has more of a square brick texture.

If you wanna go even thicker there is always the XHD7f.

To be honest though my only complaint about most the cqc7s is that they are too thick. The only reason they are ever kicked out of my pocket is because of this thickness.

That is why my grail knife is the HD7. Knowing I do not have this knife makes me feel so incomplete.

I still feel like a friggin' tool for missing out on this knife. I would trade like half my standing collection for it.

Emersons with the colored (tan, jungle, grey, etc.) g10 handles tend to be a little thicker than the current grippy black g10 models. However, Emersons with the smoother g10 handles from 2011 and older will have slightly thinner handles than today's models. But of course the HD/iron dragon models are the slimmest in the pocket by far.

Out of all the different CQC-7 versions, the HD7 is the most comfortable for me. Definitely try to get one if you see one for a reasonable price.

Well I guess I need something to look forward to.

I just got an 7V. I like the thick grips.

but now I want a HD7.

This type of coveting never ends good.

Ever since BF started it has cost me and cost me..and cost me...$$$.

This site is really to blame because before we only had magazines, brochures and some guns shows with a few knives mixed in.

I just got myself a V a couple weeks ago too. I also did a scale swap with my 7AW BT just cuz the black A blade looks better with the Tan scales.

The V tanto seems like a good blend of the A and B. Mine was pretty gritty when I got it so I took it apart and set my own lockbar and detent tensions + polished everything (pivot, blade pivot hole, scales/blade where washers contact, and a little oil on the detents to let them wear in new grooves). It's got to be the smoothest one I've got now.

The tan G10 scales are a bit thicker and I noticed the pocket clip screws were coming up a bit short when threaded in and one was starting to strip. I had some longer ones in my CQC15 for some reason that were sticking out on the inside so I swapped them around and all are perfect depth now.

A black 7v .... hmm looks cool, how about a bolstered 7v

Can you explain what this type of mod is? I'm eyeing the 7v and would probably mod it if I got it --- the look of stock Emersons doesn't float my boat.

My guess is "grip" is a typo and it's meant to be "grind." It makes sense to me as "full v edge grind mod," and that's a pretty common Emerson modification.

The mod im talking about is this, the main grind on blade is v, but the edge is still chisel sharpened only one side is sharp. A true v edge would be like a Griptilian best i can describ lol

I think the 7V would look great bolstered. But you seem talented enough to try this: a CQC-7 custom blade with reverse full chizel , so that the flat side is the presentation side. A mirror image of a standard 7 blade, that would be a winner in my books!

Why bother with a V grind mod? The chizel edge on the V does a great job and it's easier to maintain on an EDC blade.
