And I have some questions. There's nothing wrong with the order, in fact, everything looks great except for one thing. I ordered 2 bars of .125"x1.5"x48" 1084. I received 2 bars of 1084, both are marked 1.5", but one is actually 1.75" wide. Is this kind of variation normal? Also, this same bar has what looks like alloy banding running down the middle. Will this give me any trouble during HT or show up in the finished knife?

Here's a pic, the bar in question is on the right:

Again, nothing wrong, I'm very pleased with the steel, I'm just curious ;)

My guess is they ran out of 1.5" wide (which is out of stock on their website) so they sent you a bigger piece in it's place to make up for it.

Either that, or they just sent the wrong piece. Send him an email or give him a call, I'm sure he'll explain or offer to correct. Also, thats not alloy banding, its just some machine mark.

Hey Matt,

You may have gotten the last 2 pieces left of the 1/4" out of a 5,300 pound load we started with. The next load is do in August. Cutting a 1/4" off a bar costs more money than it's worth so we will often just give you the difference. The material is 20 thousands over sized to account for decarb and will clean up in about 5-7 thousandths.

Not a problem Aldo, like I said, I am very happy with the steel. I was amazed when I got the shipping notification 3 hrs. after I placed the order! I placed an order with Jantz at the same time and it shipped the day the steel arrived

Cheers

Hi Aldo,
I sent you a couple of emails about whether you could cut up some 1084 I want to order, but haven't heard back yet. I'm overseas. I would have called, but I'm normally asleep during US business hours. ;-)
