I've informally collected knives for as long as I can remember. Now I'm beginning to pay attention to steels, blade types, etc and no longer pretend to buy knives that I "need."

I just ordered a Buck 110 from the custom shop. Here are my selections: 420HC high polished blade, nickle bolsters, Sambar Stag handle, script engraving on blade and bolsters.

After reading some of your posts I've e-mailed Buck and asked if they can change my order to an S30V blade. That wasn't an option on the website.

Good score... I have not got any Bucks with S30v yet... but my Spyderco performs well (Native with S30v blade)

Even if they can't, the polished 420HC blade is still a stunner!!! I have one with that blade, NS bolsters, and Elk scales. Beautiful knife!!! Much too pretty to carry!!! ;)

...The guys are definitely right "wabbit" ...that's a beautiful knife...Congrats... ( ...errrr...or is the "white" rabbit ??...:p )

I've looked at Buck's custom shop site a couple of times with the idea of ordering a 110 w/ a damascus blade.. It shows as an option but you aren't able to select it.

Any idea when and if that blade type might be availabe ?

I emailed Joe Houser with the question but didn't hear back from him.

a few months ago they had a very limited number available which i am sure are gone now , hopefully that option will soon be available as a regular option
here is a link to a thread that has pics of these new blades so you can at least drool over it

Thanks Buckman.. You're right that is a very nice piece..

That would be the configuration I'd order if and when they have that option available again..

I'll keep checking their site..

i havent got it yet but i have one coming with jigged buffalo scales i think should be awesome

I've been day dreaming of a damascus 110 with the textured asian buffalo handle with brass bolsters. I think that would be stunning.

I can't expect to recieve my 110 for a month or two. Thankfully, my mother in law bought me a SOG Tech Bowie for Christmas. That should satiate me for a week or two.

What are your (ya'lls) thoughts on the 420HC for a 110? Would you regret seletcing 420HC over the BG-42 or any other steel? I'm hoping that I didn't make a mistake in selecting it. I did do a search in the forum for "420HC" but didn't feel that my worries were allieviated.

I ordered it for mine...

To each his own I guess. Its not standard 420. Looks awesome! ( I think)

Ya. I checked that site and read what they said about it. But when I saw that they said S30v was the best, I became preemptivley jealous.

Nice pics. Beautiful shine to that blade. I plan to use this knife as much as possble. If the blade finish is dulled, is there a way or preferred method to re-polish the steel to regain that shine?

Again, damn fine pictures of a damn fine knife.

I have Buck 110's in S30V and BG-42, and Buck 420HC is still my favorite user steel. S30V and BG-42 are much higher carbide steels which gives them tremendous wear resistance, and edge holding. They are considered higher end steels, mainly because they are expensive.

420HC is very common cutlery steel, probably because it is relatively cheap and easy to machine. However, it is very servicable, and as heat treated by Buck you get a fantastic combination of edge durability and ease of sharpening. I wouldn't regret ordering mirror polished 420HC at all if I were you.

So, you're going to post pics of that sucker once you get it, right? :D

for a show knife yuou cant beet 420hc
it takes a shine like most steels wont
the high end steels wont shine as well
too hard to..
on high end i would like to see steel like gun steel
browned or blued
as it is now
except for stamping you and use you cant tell
hien end from other end unless it is polished then you
see that 420 shines better!
for a show knife i would like to be able to order
chromed steel in show triple plate!!!
(that is copper nickel chrome layers)
yea loooooks goood !!!
also plain gold plate the whole blade
if i come across it i will post a pict of damascus and nick and jig horn ...
some palce here...
