Just ordered my first high end axe

Went with a GFB Scandinavian.

Excited. All I've had up until this point are the walmart specials. :)

We've needed a good axe, the one I have is a really old beat up plastic handled 20 dollar special.
 
Congrats! Nice tool! With GFB you get what you pay for IMO. I own a Small Forest Axe and I was happy to pay what I did for it even though there are tools that cost less that will handle the same chores. Looking forward to an America Felling axe when funds allow. Quality built in to last a lifetime and then pass on.
 
Check around online. I see a lot of ads. Maybe in stock somewhere else, maybe even a better price.
 
Yeah y'know I've been looking a lot of places and the only place I found that didn't have it backordered actually did when I called.

Seems like you just have to wait for right now. Shame.
 
....I typed that and two minutes later I found out Omaha knife had some in stock. Ordered :)
 
Don't know what you paid, or what a good price is, but a quick search shows cspforestry (listed as available) sell them for $130 with free shipping if that helps. Good luck.
 
Actually that was who I ordered from originally and despite showing in stock they called me and said they were backordered.

I paid 130 plus five bucks shipping from Omaha.
 
Good choice. The scandinavian is a great size. I'm 6'2" and I prefer it to the small forest axe because it's still small enough to use one-handed for smaller work, but can bite in pretty good if it's the only axe you've got [with you] and need to actually chop something.

I'm about the same height and that was why I went with it as well, because of similar things I read written by other people.

You know they will sharpen it for free and they do a real nice job.
 
That's awesome. I have heard the GFB come with a shaving sharp edge as it is so I don't think they will need to do it but that's really good to know, thanks so much for the info :thumbup:

No problem wouldn't hurt to ask them before they ship it to you.
