Just ordered my holy grail! An Ontario RTAK 2!

Well, the grips are way too big, the sheath isn't
the greatest, but you're gonna love it! Wait till you
see it, it's a lot bigger in person than in pics!
I have all the big choppers, junglas, rd9, bk9,etc.
but there's just something special about the rtak2.

It is fine for a small machete or large camp knife.
From what I can tell the RTAK is ground very thin for a knife its size.
This is a good thing as it works well as a cutting tool and screams through green vegetation and soft wood.
I took a nickle sized chunk out of the blade when I first got it chopping some really hard fatwood.
I sent it to Ontario and they gave me a new one in just a few days with no questions asked.
Now that I know its limitations, I keep it in my truck and use it for clearing in confined areas.

Was that the 5160 or the 1095 version?

It is the 1095 version.
The 5160 were not available when I bought it.
What steel did you select?

I have one. Makes my BK9 look like a Ka-Bar USMC knife, as seen here. It's about as tall as the jerry can.

I think it needs to be skeletonized under the scales to shift the balance to the front more. Hate the sheath, handles need reshaping. It's a beast. Still prefer my BK9 though. Not sure if I want to customize it or sell it.

I have a feeling you are going to be very happy with it in 5160.
Just be careful when you get her, mine came razor sharp and there is enough size there to do some serious damage.

Damage to some wood! No, seriously though, I was reminded
what a large knife can do when it hits a part of the body and not wood
very recently. I appreciate the concern. Now, arguably the best part starts; waiting for
it to come in. It gives me something to look forward to everyday.

Man i love my R-TAK 2 its a beast! I've pu it through 5 1/2 inch thick oak logs (baton splitting) and it bent quite a bit in the log but then the second I pulled it out right back to strait as an arrow also make a great machete I have done a lot of bush work with that thing, hope it preforms as well as it does for me for you!

Here is a pic of my well used RTAK 2 to hold you over.
Razor sharp and ready to go.

Man, I love my RTAKII. They seem to have come down in price a little over the last couple of years. I've owned several CS Trailmasters and really liked them, but I ended up keeping the RTAK and getting rid of the Trailmasters. I've got little girly hands and the RTAK DOES have too big handles, but I still love it. It's so dang big and heavy it feels like a Roman short sword. I only get to use it when I go camping and probably look for things to use it for more than actually needing it. But it's a lot of fun.

I just got it today, and while I expected a large knife, this thing is HUGE.
I haven't gotten to use it yet, but I love the thick handles. Just some first
impressions. There is one minor complaint I have. It is sharp, but not
quite shaving sharp. I can fix it with some sharpening though. I like it
though and I expect to enjoy it very much.

Sorry guys, no pictures.

Yeah I was surprised at how big it was too. I've had big knives before but the RTAK II is the biggest. Makes a good short machete.

Congratulations on your new purchase.

I really have enjoyed mine! Not sure what steal it is but i bought several years ago so i think it's 1095. When did they start making them in 5160?
A few months ago i purchased a kydex sheath for it from Chestnut Ridge, i couldnt stand the floppy nylon crap sheath any longer. This knife has been beaten pretty hard and never had any problems with it. Just recently spent a good amount of time tuning up the edge on it with my Sharpmaker so she's all freshened up for another shooting/gun camp out in Calico.
