So, Ive been looking around for a good light, and low and behold at a local shop tonight I picked up a 65 lumen dorcy light for $10!
Freggin awsome, the thing works so well, and bright:thumbup:
Ill get some pics up in a few.
can't beat my surefire D3 with 235 lumens.....
those dorcy lights are really awesome for the money.
Nice catch...

One of these days man, but 10 bucks!![]()
I have a couple of the Dorcy lights. Both are 1 watt, one using 3x AAA with no electronics and the other a CR123, with electronics. I like them both and they put off good light.
Not knocking the surefire lites, because they sure do lite up the room, but sometimes in the outdoors you miss some detail that gets lost with the ultra bright light. Not to mention, you lose your night vision the second you hit the switch.
Another good, inexpensive light on the market is the Target line called River Rock. I picked up the 1xAA 1 watt and their 2xAA 3 watt lights, both with electronics and they are both good lights.
I carry the SureFire L1 Digital Lumamax but a new SureFire E2DL is on its way...I carry a Surefire E1L Outdoorsman everywhere I go. Also shameful what I spent on that little light![]()
Some SureFires have more than one level of brightness, so you don't need to use the "high" mode all the time. With the L1, you press for low (10 lumens) and press harder for full 65+ lumens. The new E1L and E2L Outdoorsman got the same system. The E1B Back- up and the E2DL Defender are also multi-level flashlights. These are all excellent choices for camping/hiking/hunting.I have a couple of the Dorcy lights. Both are 1 watt, one using 3x AAA with no electronics and the other a CR123, with electronics. Hey- you can't say a local shop without telling me which one you went to!!
That is worse than a tease!
i just use a 3d L.E.D mag lite!
I'm undecided whether to get a 3D or a 4D. 4D seems a bit big even for the use I have in mind for it, and a 3D about ideal, but with 1.5hrs burn on a 4D mod I think the capacity of the 3D could be too small.
As I've mentioned here before, I stuck a Terralux TLE-5EX Ministar2 Extreme in a 2AA and was astonished at the 140 lumens. Given the Mag chassis is one of the most popular around to mod, and even if you did something stupid to one you'd have to do something even more stupid to not be able to repair it what with their simplicity and the range of parts available, I moved all of them onto that bulb including 2Ds [needs adapter]. I found the 2Ds work great but weren't what I anticipated. I thought even with the stock reflector I'd get better throw and that isn't the case. The TLE-5EX with 2*AA reflector mod spanks it in the beam department. Probably because I expected a bigger version of what I'm getting on the AAs I was kinda keen to get a custom reflector for that too, but I've come to love it as it is. The big wide throw is great for things such as shepherding folks through, and the disk accords wonderfully with peripheral vision, and it burns for ages. Still though, although that is very useful, after seeing the AA on that bulb in action I've got a hankering. I was so smitten by the Underwater Kinetics 6C the thought I could blow that clean out the water running a white LED...
anyway, the mod I have in mind for this one uses this
