i picked up one of these from the store today. i got the SE version. im not a fan of steel handles, but i really do like this knife quite a lot. the blade is so wicked, one of the finest blades ive seen amongst the spydercos. the lock on the ATR is pretty cool too, but man what a nice blade! this blade is too nice to be neglected inmop, i would love to see a frn or g10 version of the ATR. the cobra hood makes the grip on the knife very comfortable and reliable as well. i just love the serrations and the spearlike tip.

Good choice, I cary mine all the time, quick to get, one hand open & close.
I recently attended an edged weapons class & found out that Bram Frank had alot to do with the design of this knife, & some interesting history.
good to go D.C.

So you prefer the SE over the PE? I really like the look of both, but up in the air as far as which one is more useful. (most people pick PE cause they either like the look of PE or dont like sharpening SE,not how usefull SE really is in most cases compared to PE)

3mptin3ss,

Congrats on the new Spydie. The ATR seems like a great knife. I'm not a fan of the SS handle either, I think it would be more popular with G-10 and maybe FRN.

One of the other reasons I like PE over SE is that it gives cleaner cuts, which is a big factor for me. Practically speaking, either can be superior depending on the materials you deal with.

Have you ever cut a peice of paper with a sharp caly 3 SE? Its cleaner then you think!

i chose the SE version cause i carry for SD primarily. i want serrations to lessen the chance of the blade skipping over clothing etc if i ever need to use it. SE will just rip right through clothing. SE really does have more cutting power, and you can test this easily by trying to cut something thick with a PE blade and then trying the SE. try to cut into a phone book, or a toilet paper roll. you will notice the difference in cutting power immediately.

the ATR blade also just looks so much cooler with SE lol....

Yep, I had an SE Jester and it cut paper clean most of the time. I have no problems getting them sharp either. When cutting paper, so long as the cutting surface stays within one scallop in the SE, it will cut clean. Once the paper slides through multiple scallops, the cut is not so clean.
