Here is a 10 inch Bladed Bowie I made yesterday.I was just wanting to play around so I took a old really badly rusted and pitted file (no brand name visible) and forged out a blade. Then after heat treat and grinding gave it a steel guard that I etched to age the steel alittle, then added a dyed and stabilized piece of cow leg bone I have been wanting to try and pinned it with a couple of NS pins...
So what do you think ?
This was a fun project and let me just clear my head and play.I left the finish on it straight off the grinder and lightly buffed it,using no hand rubbing...

Very nice Bruce. It definetly has that dated
rustic look.It must have been one big honk'n file. Now sir if you are done playing
around would you please get back to slaying ,I mean working.:D

Hay that is a great knife, you do good work just
playing around. It is good to see the rustic finish
used by other makers. Very nice, make some more. Gib

Bruce, looks good! The knife looks like a full tang with a flared but. How did you get that out of a file?
Thanks, Lynn

Thanks everybody...
Donna made me stop shaving my legs when I ran out of arm hair years ago...:D
I agree Bruce:p Donna still thinks she is to fat,Can't convince her otherwise so I have just shut up and let her think what she wants,as long as she doesn't get to skinny:D

Lynn,This is a hidden stick tang, that is a full piece of bone with just one end cut off before dying and stabilizing...
Heck guys I only used 2/3 of the file on this one I still have a nother nice piece of it left and its the end with the tang on it already,Probably get at least a 6 inch blade from it after shaping and tapering,Guess I will do that the next time I fire up the forge and give this one a Sister. Then I guess I better get back on the real clean knives that I have to think about what I am doing..These let me just get creative and play with no boundaries to keep into when making it...

Nice leg............
....bone, The blade is cool too Bruce. ;)
I know what you mean just to clear your mind
with one just to go for it with no boundaries..
those are the best ones for relaxing the sole.

Question for you guys,Should I give this Bowie a antiqued tin sheath like on the reproduction Bowie I did or just a plain leather sheath..
I think the tin would look cool myself.
Any opinions ?
Bruce

That's really nice, for just foolin round :)
When I fool around on a knife, it never gets out of the computer ;)
I really like that blade shape, and the guard together. I bet those would work well with a straight, skinney Sheffield handle too.

The sheath?
Think Mountain Man/Indian, maybe one with the single vertical slot on the blade edge, that your belt goes thru and the sheath is on the inside of the belt.

Damn that rocks! The rustic theme is very consistant and balanced. In fact, if you were to add to the bowie it would take away the apeal. You've created a work of art.

I suggest you get some good pictures of it before selling, that bowie has got star quality all over it.

Leather,, as rustic as the bowie.
any medal sheath would out weigh
it in complexity I think.

I think that thing would look best with one of those leather sheath with beads and stuff. That looks like it could have been carried along with a muzzle loader...
