Just playing and having fun,Bowie pics

Leather it is...
I will see what i can come up with when I start on a sheath making kick again..
By the way the rest of the file that was left is 5 inches long not counting the tang on it,So I will end up with another decent sized knife out of it,Probably 7-8inches depending on the clip I give it..Cool..
Bruce
PS, The knife is still available also....

Bruce....that is a really cool Bowie!

Do you figure that the steel is W1, W2, or similar?

What temper heat did you use?

I made a big Bowie from a worn out file that was marked Shur-Cut and I had to go up to 450F to get it to cut without chipping.

I think a raw hide sheath would go good with that mature mountain man bowie. Daniel Winkler and Karen Shook make knives and sheaths like this one. She always uses raw hide and fringe. Be sure to age it too.

Xrayed,I always temper files at 450 if I am not sure what the brand is but quenches good...

Bruce that is a cool idea,I am not sure how they make the rawhide sheaths though.I do have some leather I picked up at the flea market a while back that has some of the hair left on it,Maybe i will make a wooden core and wrap it with this leather and then add some fringe and beads to it.
Bruce

They use rawhide as a inter core,
then cover with deer skin.
My hats off to Karen because it`s not easy

Pretty darn nice Bruce!
Consider using a little Plum Brown on the next one to patina the blade a little. Experiment first because it can get out of hand and be too dark.
