Just put a deposit down on my first custom. A rick lala elvia. I don’t why but I’m in love with this knife... must be my inner mall ninja

I thought I'd post a pic - simply because the design is so different...
it's basically a folding hand scythe in aeb-l steel... I don't own one, nor do I think I could afford the custom price (nearly 1k)

Yeah that’s it’s. Thanks. It is pricey but I said fuck it.

I could’ve went with a shiro or a million other more practical knives Which I will probably eventually get but I let my emotions get the best of me and pulled the trigger.

danbot danbot I added a pic of one more representative of the knife I’m getting

From what I understand it was designed by Ed Calderon so I'm sure it has some practac value that's meaningless to me. The materials aren't super compelling, but it's definitely an interesting shape. I have an odd fascination for hawkbill blades myself, despite being impractical in most situations.

I hope it lives up to it's price tag and that you're happy with it. Cheers and congratulations.

Thanks. I love hawkbills. I use them daily, skinning wire and cutting whatever. I doubt I’ll be carrying this at work.

If you're going custom, get something different I say!
Why go custom if it looks like every other blade?

I envy people with custom knife patience.:D
I've bought customs, and semi-productions but they were already made and ready to ship.
Saw something I liked on a custom maker's website and bought it/ them. :p

I love the hawkbill/ karambit shape in general, but I'm having a hard time making sense of that "dogleg" orientation to the handle.
I don't mean that in a bad way, I mean I'm very interested in how that knife performs and the logic behind such a crazy looking shape.
Please keep us posted :)

It's like a big claw, some karambits I've seen curve under so much as to be almost useless without specialized training. The knife the OP posted is placed better to just flail away and inflict serious damage instinctively. The Kershaw posted above is the same basic concept with less curve. I think some karambits are so "hookey" that they might get snagged up in an opponents clothing (or flesh) and being tied to an assailant (or him jerk free, taking the knife with him) is the last thing you want, you want to be able to wound to get free and run ASAP.

That kershaw talon is sweet. I need one.

Nm... I’ll take the custom Elvia. The talon doesn’t even have a cool pocket clip;)

Why not get a Emerson, which is The Best Hard Use Knives In the World, and they are way Cheaper.

Overstatement of the century

Yall should check out Rick Lala's instagram page, he does some sweet carving jobs

if you like customs check out Frank Fischer Talon, its a little more expensive but it fits your tastes, customs are amazing when made by a good maker, it just cant be replicated, congrats

The Fischer talon is beautiful. I’d love to own one but his books are closed and I’m all set with secondary market prices.

I’ve never spent more than 500ish on a knife before so this is a big step for me.
