Just received a package... UPDATED with a Kraut's opinion on the BK2 6/23

So I took a day off today and headed out of town after my physical therapy appointment (holy cow, my new therapist is hot, and she likes the outdoors, has been to the us hiking a few times... we had a fun time talking!) and spent the afternoon outside. I'll try to describe what I thin about the BK2.

I should probably mention that I took it in the condition that I received it in from Nick (NIB), didn't touch it up, didn't strip it, nothing. Even the factory edge is still on it. I was amazed by the chopping power that this knife has. With the right technique (and some brute force) you can get a 2" locust sapling cut down with 3-4 swings. That's pretty impressive. I started to build a simple lean-to shelter and got all the heavy frame work done with only the BK2. Great for chopping, splitting... it's a hard use knife, something that I would give a german KSK soldier who is headed for Afghanistan. This is the knife that I would want for digging, prying, breaking stuff, the things that knives aren't meant to do :D

On the other hand, the knife isn't really my first choice for an all round woods knife. It just doesn't cut it. Pun intended. It's probably the factory edge, but I think the knife is just too thick to be a good slicer. Coupled with a Mora (either the one that I have right now, the Bushcraft Triflex or the much smaller Classic 2) carried tip-down around the neck - or a Multitool - and a good folding saw, it would make a substantial part of a modern-day Nessmuk trio for backpacking trips with the ability to process wood and craft stuff for up to 3 people. YMMV.

Not sure about the sheath stuff yet, I think I'll give the stock sheath the Warrior mod and a chance. We'll see.

meat.

It looks like he took two bulls and sowed them together and shoved BK2 between them. That sheath alone could bring down a rhino. You lucky dog.
