I recently had contacted Gilles @ Fontenille Pataud in France about his Capachadou knife.
They look amazing and are totally hand crafted.
Here are pictures of my Capachadou in Buffalo Bark

Enjoy!!!

I didn't understand much of your title, but that's a beautiful knife and (?) horizontal-carry sheath.

Stunning knife. I like the combos with sheath & steel. I have an Opi combo, looks like the same steel.

I don't have this particular pattern, but it's rather like a Saddlehorn in some respects. Thanks for showing this French traditional.

I do have 3 of Fontenille-Pataud's Laguioles though, each are locking knives which is very clever on this pattern, Walnut, Smooth Bone and Ram's Horn Bark. the filework varies as they're hand-made but the quality is astounding, no 'issues' at all. Gilles offers his knives in a vast range of handles, steels including Dam and you can choose crocus polish or matte to suit your tastes. Outstanding workmanship, even non-knife types show interest in these beauties, 100% authentic:thumbup:

That's gorgeous! I'm smitten by the French, Italian, Spanish, Mediterranean knife patterns these days, and that's one I have not yet seen. Very nice! I really like the locking mechanism. The blade shape is very appealing, and looks quite useful. And the buffalo handles are out of this world! Thank you for sharing... you have ruined my bank account. ;)

I like Capachadou shape and choices of materials
when i was browsing for Le Thiers i found same website, and temptation was (still is)high.
Does the blade touches spring if closed bit "freely",Laguioles and Le Thiers have to be closed carefully to avoid that...

rinos, the Laguioles from this company have a blade stop which compensates for the lack of kick, so the blade won't whack the liner. I still prefer to close them carefully though.

is there a website from which one could purchase them at a decent price? do they come in non-polished but satined blades and bolsters? I too am looking more at traditional folders these days....

Best place is their web site,
you have two options of size (10 and 12 cm),steel(12C27,RWL34,XC75,and damasteel),different handle materials(choice of wood, bone and horn) and level of finish(blade and bolster finish, filework, decorative stones) decent price starts at 149 €.

Mine us 12cm knife, polished stainless steel and Buffalo Bark handle. Cost me about 375.00 US with the sheath.

Beautiful knife and the price isn't bad considering it's handmade France. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the heads up rinos,i was going to make some comments about my lovely Capuchadou but the previous posts just about have it covered, by the way thanks to willgoy for reminding me that the handle shape on the Saddlehorn is pretty similar it has been bugging me ever since my "Capu" arrived although i doubt a Saddlehorn feels as good in the hand, (wait for angry posts from Saddlehorn fans)LOL...
