Just Received My Winterblade Factor

This is insane, someone who got a WinterBlade and didn't immediately rush to the Exchange, talking about "Just a catch and release" with a super jumped price? UNPOSSIBLE.

That said, good on you for actually using it!
Lol - I’m too naive to know that this was happening.

Super cool. Just wish the price was even remotely worth it.
I agree that it’s too expensive for what you get. But I feel like that about CRK and Demkos as well, and I love them both. I’m guessing that Winterblade will offer more affordable options in time.

This should be a $200-$250 knife, and it feels a lot like a Taiwanese Spyderco in terms of fit and finish (which is not at all a bad thing). But I get what it takes to make a new company profitable, so I think the price is justified for now. I’m optimistic that profits will be reinvested accordingly to offer even better products at lower price points in the future.

Bryan Winters is very approachable, and it truly seems like he’s in it for the “right” reasons. He has always been very quick to personally respond to my inquiries, and he has never seemed like he’s above criticism. Basically, I believe that he is going to do the right things with this company, provided that he is allowed to do so by his partners/investors.

I certainly hope your prediction comes to fruition as even though I’m old I love new innovations.

Thanks for the feedback - I had decided to pass on the Factor, but when the Mirage was announced I did jump on the pre-orders. That one is just more my style and seems to have been designed to be foolproof and safe. I got the bare Ti with CF liners.

Gonna have to disagree on this point. For a titanium and carbon fiber knife with excellent fit and finish, made from titanium, CF, and M390, and with this level of innovation, I have zero problem with the price.

I dunno, but maybe it’s time to let go of the whole China = Cheap trope. I own 12 CRKs, to say nothing of my customs from the likes of Jason Guthrie, Jens Ansø, Gareth Bull, Laconico, et all, and my B2 Factor gives up nothing in terms of construction or tolerances.

Obviously YMMV, as the OP agrees with this sentiment, but I sure as heck do not.

Can’t wait to see what’s next from Bryan!

Regards,
Adam

I think that using the magnets to actually assist with the knife opening is much more appealing to many people, myself included. And from the videos I’ve seen, it opens in a much more “natural” type of action than a spring assisted knife.

I like that the Mirage (or Factor?) can close much easier and gently, and more safely, than my other spring assisted knives. If you've ever gotten bit by trying to close a ZT 0770, or an assisted Kershaw or Benchmade, then you start looking for more non-assisted/non side opener autos unless one really tickles your fancy.
