Just rubbed one out

very nice - I also checked out the blog, love the battle-er, BBQ fork!

I've been working my tail off the last week on a stainless laminated blade, forged bolsters, bighorn sheep scales that are a bitch to flatten, this and that.. then I see your simple knife and wonder.. why?!

Nice, clean work...

Thanks again guys.

Aldo I'm still waiting for you to call me back with those numbers. This knife was from that batch of steel that I have yet to pay you for!

Scott, I know what you mean, man. I have a pile of fancy, elaborate knives in various stages of (in)completion on my bench, including, among others, an integral damascus / san-mai dagger, but sometimes I just have to take a break and bang out a simple one - just to get something DONE. The more elaborate projects are stimulating but they can become tedious after a while, especially when weeks have gone by and you still don't have anything complete to show for all your work. That's why these simple knives or the occasional small blacksmithing project can be a welcome diversion and a quick opportunity to earn the satisfaction that comes from finishing something.

that could describe the way I feel about making a simple knife:rolleyes:
ah, maybe I'll get there one day...

i love the geometry of this knife, the forge scale contrast with the polished blade & the colur of that wood.
hoping to use this as inspiration for a forging/knifemaking weekend coming up in august here in Oz with my eldest son (his end of school welcome to the real world gift-it will be us two & the knifemaker)
cheers

Steve, I got the micarta from Masecraft Supply Co. I will add that I received excellent service and very fast shipping, and do not hesitate to recommend them to you.

Meako, sounds like a really fun and memorable weekend for you and your son. Be sure to take a few photos!

Lorien, it's a labor of love, my friend. Oh, pardon me, labour. ;)

Good looking blade, really like the bone micarta with the forge and handrubbed blade.

Best,
Eric
