You sword-slinging, metal bashing, arrow flinging types are gonna love this one!

Nearly three-and-a-half hours of it too!

What a ride!

Looking foeward to it.

Just last week we got the extended release DVD of #2.

Both extended releases (#1 & #2) are so much better
than the theatrical releases.

The little added bits make a huge difference in the story.

Hope in the future the extended releases make it to the big screen.

Finally the end of the story:D for those of us iliterate ones who are too lazy to read the books:rolleyes: I can't wait:eek:

Just saw it as well and was blown away. I also noticed lots of parts they're likely to extend for the Special Edition. Absolutely worth the money to see in theaters.

Afraid you missed it, ddean...I just got back from the screening of the extended Fellowship and Two Towers, and also Return of the King--10+ hours of movie!! They did give us little breaks in between films, though. :)

I agree it's very good. I've been very happy with all these films. The books are still king, but I think Peter Jackson has transfered them to the screen about as well as anybody could have.

The thing I love about the movies is they don't try to supplant the books. The two mediums complement each other amazingly well. The movies actually help to provide more depth to the story. A sharp-eyed fan will notice all sorts of little things from the books that were thrown into the mix that a casual moviegoer would miss.

I got to see ROTK yesterday and it was excellent. About as well as anyone could have done with the material. The 3 hours and 40 minutes went by in what seemed like 1/2 an hour. This movie moves like the first Indiana Jones film. What a ride!!!! (this one is going to reel in a very tall pile of oscars)

In addition to the 3-film marathon on Tuesday, the extended editions of FotR and TT were released for about a week each, in the two weeks before RotK. It was only in one theater per big city, usually... The extended editions raise both movies' grades from about C+ to A-, and this is speaking as a huge Tolkien fan who was pretty negative about the changes they had to make. I understand the reason for the changes, but I still don't like them :D

It's too bad that they couldn't film the Scouring of the Shire. It is my favorite part of the story. But, capturing it on film would have probably added at least another hour.

Who are you calling illiterate?

My house is filled with books. They all have lots of pictures, and are fun to color.
:) :) :D :D

Cool. I'm gonna try to see it tomorrow. Hope they did Aragorn on the paths of the dead kings right!

I've been a fan of Pete Jackson fer a while and knew he'd do a bang up job.

All three movies are great tourism ads fer the wonderful landscapes fo New Zealand.

Wonder if He'll do the Hobbit now. Prequels have been big, since the new Star Wars movies.

Just got back about half an hour ago from seeing it. A fantastic visual treat! I agree with N2S-the time flys by. Definately the seasons must see movie.

I doubt you'll be disappointed. That was one of my favorite parts. Legolas gets to kick some serious butt at the Battle of Gondor. Their portrayal of that battle was absolutely incredible. I'm gettin goosebumps just thinking of it.

What a film - the Olifant battle scene is epic and the dead green dudes, the spider - WOW !!

I have the first two extended version - wonder what the collectors item will be with this one !!

Jackson has stated that he wants to, it's just a question of getting the rights, and then (of course) finding time in his schedule. Some time soon after he's done with King Kong, I hope.

And the advantage to THIS prequel, would be that it is its own story, and was penned by someone who is now a world-reknowned author.

I don't know if they could stay true to it, though. A company full of dwarves doesn't have nearly the sex appeal the fellowship did, and there are no romances anywhere. I bet Peter Jackson would be willing to make it right, but I don't know if New Line (or any studio) would let him. I've already heard musings that Arwen might be inserted into the Hobbit if they made it. I mean for Heaven's sake, Liv Tyler is cute, but they already made Arwen's part about 100 times as big as it originally was in LOTR. If she gets more than a cameo in Elrond's house, I'm going to start throwing things.

Judging by the LOTR trilogy me thinks Jackson will do it good !!

He's even more of a fan than most fans !!

Was impressed starting out with the first one, but quickly turned to major disapointment. I can only make out about one out of six words Gollum says regardless of how high the volume. Totally kills the ability to follow the story :grumpy:

Years of loud music and shooting without hearing protection when I was young + a fireworks acccident :(
