Howdy all,

I'm a long time forum member, but spend most of my time over in WS&S and various Maker's forums.

I've decided to take my life-long infatuation with knives to the next logical step and try my hand at making them. There is a VERY awesome maker here who's going to "show me the ropes" this spring. I'll let him keep his privacy and not mention his name here.

So in the meantime I'm collecting up all new tools because, well, I had none.
I've picked up a bench grinder, drill press, scroll saw, and 2x42 belt sander. I'm really excited about this.

Hopefully by the end of spring I'll be posting up my first knife. Until then, I'll keep digging through this forum to learn as much as I can. I'm reading Wayne Goddard's $50 Knife Shop right now, and learning a lot from that.

So ya, just saying Hi, and keep your eyes open for my first "stab" at knife making.

Later!

Glad to have you here. I would also suggest the Loveless/Barney book How to Make Knives for after you finish the Goddard book.

Also "The Wonder of Knifemaking" by Mr. Goddard is a great read (I think I got the title correct.)

I'm very sorry for you and the family, many people start making knives thinking they can beat the addiction and the lure of steel dust, burnt fingers and funny smells but they can't......

Lol.. thanks!

I'll check those books out as well.

My wife thinks this will be a good way to get me out of her hair so she can scrap book once in a while.... :) She doesn't know does she? I hope she REALLY likes scrap booking. She's probably going to have LOTS of time to do it.

Congrats on the decision to give it a try. It's something that will frustrate you and reward you. It's a very rewarding experience and a proud moment when you show the first knife or the 50th knife. Welcome to this neck-of-the-boards!
