Hello guys, I've recently decided to participate in the forums after reading lots of interesting posts very rich in info about my favourite topics: knives, outdoors and survival and great mother nature.
I live in Romania in the province of Transilvania. It's a nice place for practising outdoors skills but there aren't too many choices for good equipment unfortunately.
I'm looking forward to learning from you.
See you around the forums.

Welcome, this is a great site, & I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to ask questions. –johnny3443 (john):)

Welcome to the party!

I hear your country is very beautiful. Any pics with you and your knives in the great outdoors?

How are the knife laws there? Are they like England and Canada and Australia where anything over a couple of inches or anything automatic lands you in the jail?

Here is a link to a company that sells knives mainly to outdoors folks like hunters, fisherman, campers, hikers, climbers, rafters, canoers, etc. However, I can't recommend them to a new knife user because they are too sharp with convex ground tool steel blades and you could really hurt yourself if you are not careful.

I have the huntsman model (with the blade guard!!!). It isn't a great big Bowie type knife and is very easy to carry yet very effective at cleaning/gutting large game. And the prices are very reasonable for such quality.

Indeed the legend of a blood thirsty guy was born here out of the troubled history of the Middle Ages. Personally I like both the legend and the historical character. Nothing to be sorry about :)

welcome aboard !
My girlfriend was born in Romania and she goes there every summer to see her father and they go hiking in the mountains there and the pictures she showed me were really cool. Im going to try to go hiking with her next summer

I will post some pics soon if you want to see a little of the countryside (that's the nicer aspect of the country, or any country :) )
I don't have many knives but I do like to get out there and use them and I'll post a few pics of those too.
I am also familiar with Bark River knives, I've been drooling over that North Star ever since it came out but all the BRKT's are out of my (financial) league unfortunately.
I don't know what the laws stipulate exactly as far as knives are concerned but I know you can carry a knife while walking in the woods without being considered a threat. In town you are not allowed to carry any knife but that's OK with me since all I carry in town is a Victorinox SAK in my pocket - no one knows it's there. :) But you can always carry a knife in a backpack even in town, no problem there.

Some pics will follow in the next post,
Again thanks everybody for welcoming me here

Here are some pics I took last summer during a trip to the Northern areas (my favourite part of the country)

I hope you enjoyed them.

Here are some pics of my gear (and not only) during a recent day out to practice making fire in cold conditions without special tinder.

These are my knives (pretty much all of them).

As you can see I eventually managed to make a nice warm fire.

It was pretty cold, some -12 C.

That's it, hope you liked them.

Cheers!

There are quite a lot of great places for hiking and camping and you can enjoy the freedom af being allowed to camp just about anywhere (as long as it's not private property, though many times the owners will allow that too).
If you plan on coming drop a message and I'll be glad to give you a few tips how to best take advantage of your trip. What part of the country is your girlfriend from?

WoodsWalker: THANK YOU so much for the pix of your beautiful country!! And the pix of your knives.

Hey Woodswalker greetings and welcome. Romania, my grandfather and grandmother lived in Romania near Ploesti. I think that is the city. It is an oil producing area. My grandfather worked the fields there and got them going. My grandmother really enjoyed living there for a number of years. keepem sharp and nice hearing from you and enjoyed the pics.

Thank you very much for pictures, they are great.
What camera did you use?
